Description

A workout that balances both the body and the mind can be found in the Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies. Fundamental postures are explained and demonstrated slowly with an emphasis on breathing and motion. Sara Ivanhoe teaches 12 basic poses that are termed the "daily dozen" and offers challenges and modifications to each of these moves. Ivanhoe presents these concepts in an approachable and calming manner that adds to the overall relaxed feeling that this session exudes. Newcomers to the practice of yoga will learn jargon, essential postures, and focusing techniques. Experienced participants may find some information redundant, but Ivanhoe offers such thorough explanations about each posture that you can't help but expand your existing knowledge of yoga. As the mountain pose, standing forward bend, and downward facing dog are explained (not to mention the nine other poses within the "daily dozen"), proper body alignment becomes the focus. Meticulous attention is given to the connection between breathing and body movement with several reminders to keep the spine in "neutral alignment." This session ranks great for safety and content and makes yoga accessible to anyone who "always wanted to, but never did." This is a substantial program that can introduce the basics and build your understanding of yoga. --Olivia Voigts

This workout will de-mystify the mystical so that anyone can experience the fabulous benefits of yoga. Today, many people use yoga to help alleviate back pain, reduce stress, and increase flexibility.

Have lost weight,.

Good for basic beginners

by Sarah from Connecticut, USA on 2010-04-22
I like this DVD it is simple and easy to follow. I have never done yoga before and found the directions to be easy to follow. I would recommend this DVD to someone who thinks they might want to take up yoga but does not want to dish out the money to take a class or join a gym to do so. I feel I'm learning basic yoga that I will be able to continue for many years to come from this DVD.

Basic but excellent

by Lulabela from Colorado on 2010-01-31
This is the DVD that got me into yoga. The workout is good and isn't overly intimidating. Sara does an excellent job at explaining the poses and is wonderfully encouraging without talking down to the beginner. She reminds us that yoga is a very personal exercise and how important it is to work at our own pace. The Sun Salute extra portion is a bit more fast paced and challenging. It's great once you've gone through the more basic explanation of the postures in the first part of the dvd. The only thing I didn't like were the "for dummies" pop up alerts - totally unnecessary. I still do this dvd on occasion but tend to fast forward between moves as I don't need as much of the instruction anymore.

A Fantastic CD

I needed to find a Mary Poppins CD, London version, for my 5 year old granddaughter. I found it through Amazon and I was delighted with how quickly it came. We are taking her to see Mary Poppins in Los Angeles and she has become well acqainted with all the music and lyrics by listening to the CD over and over again. The CD is fabulous and she just loves singing along as best as she can. The most important thing to me (as a language teacher) is that my granddaughter has become acqainted with a British accent. This will make the live performance even more enjoyable for her since the cast does sing and speak with a British accent. Caryl, Calabasas, CA

Ivanhoe is calm, clear, warm, and patient, demonstrating each pose as the screen flashes easier and more challenging modifications. The too-frequent voiceover "tips," "mythbusters," and "warnings"--announced by sound effects--are louder than Ivanhoe's voice and become disconcerting interruptions. Since they also appear in print on the screen, the jarring voice is unnecessary. Ivanhoe herself could give any tips needed for safety and effectiveness. Ivanhoe's careful, detailed instructions for each pose keep the progression slow, and an experienced yoga practitioner could get bored. However, a beginning exerciser who has mastered a basic workout will find this program a helpful next step before going to an intermediate level. The 70-minute DVD edition also includes a 15-minute guided meditation and the option to eliminate the music--you still hear instructor cueing and voiceover tips, but you can play your own music. --Joan Price

like a one on one yoga class

by Lynn Benson from Seattle on 2007-12-21
This is like your own private one-on-one yoga for beginners class. The instructor gives you indications on what the poses are, how to get into them, how to stay in them, how to get out of them. She also gives you options on how to make these poses easier or more challenging, depending on your skill level. Yoga is not a one size fits all discipline. There are no other people shown in this video doing difficult poses that a beginner cannot do (making you feel inadequate) - just the instructor. It's very comfortable. To enjoy yourself to the fullest, I do recommend that you have at the ready your: DVD remote control, yoga mat, pillow/towel, yoga strap, and a chair. This way you can go though the DVD without serious interruption and really get to take in what is happening. You'll enjoy it without having to run around the house looking for those things.

START HERE!!!!

by Beginner pretzel from Virginia Beach, VA. on 2006-05-23
If you are new to yoga then you need to start with this dvd. This is a good introduction for yoga. There is no vinyasa flow or anything like that, just a basic start of the poses. There are times when it might seem a little silly, but if you are somewhat inflexible (like I was) then you ought to start with this video. From here, I would advise going on to Seane Corn videos. Again, start here if you want to start doing yoga. Sara Ivanhoe offers plenty of variations if you are unable to do the poses as she demonstrates them. Enjoy!

Very good set of DVDs

by T. Simonson from on 2005-01-19
I began using these DVDs as a novice to yoga. Deceptively simple at first. Despite my increased strength and flexibility, these DVDs are my favorites. My only objection is that I wish there was a way to turn off the cueing.

A good introduction to yoga for beginners.

by Ragnarok Books from on 2004-11-26
These two DVDs comprise a good introduction to yoga for beginners. The instructor works slowly through the postures, explaining the techniques and benefits. Each DVD contains twelve postures. The first DVD includes basic postures, while the second DVD contains more advanced postures and also a 15-minute primer on meditation.

I found it quaint that the instructor finds the lunge position more challenging than the tree position (balancing on one foot with the other foot against your thigh). I am not sure if this stems from misunderstanding of the difficulty of the postures or it may be just a glitch in editing, but by and large, these DVDs are certainly worth their price. Recommended for beginners with no prior knowledge of yoga.

Great!

Description

Beginning exercisers with busy schedules can shape and strengthen their bodies with four separate 15-minute workouts, each targeting a specific set of muscles: arms, abs, thighs, and buttocks. Altogether, 26 different shaping and strengthening exercises are featured, both standing and floor, some requiring dumbbells (two sets recommended), others using body weight. Skillful instructor Gay Gasper keeps the exercises and instruction simple and unintimidating. Each mini-workout has its own warm-up, and sometimes show both challenging and easier modifications. In the friendly format of the For Dummies books, 15-Minute Workouts for Dummies uses icons to indicate tips, safety cautions, "myth busters" (commonly misunderstood facts about exercise) and vocabulary definitions ("quads," for example) This is an effective and enjoyable way to fit strength training into little segments of time. --Joan Price

Excellent 15 minute workoutS

by Allison Smith from on 2009-10-27
I purchased this DVD so I can get a decent overall workout in 15 minutes. What I didn't know is that this workout dvd contains four different 15 minute workouts to foucus on major parts of our body: thighs, arms, buns, and abs. I was pretty disapointed when i realized this and didn't use this dvd for over a year, it didnt help being that the workouts were confusing. But I came back to when I felt i needed to muscularize my thighs and abs- and so that is what I've been doing: the 15 minute workout for thighs + the 15 minute workout for abs which gives me a combined workout for 1/2 and hour which is pretty darn good timing for a pretty darn good workout. The first time you try this dvd it will be confusing but I assure you that after using the dvd 3x's a week u will get the hang of it!! and when u do the results will show! I am very satisfied with my purchase of this dvd and think Gay Gasper does a phenomanal job of instructing!

Description

Pilates method mat workout to tone and reshape the body.

Pilates Workout for Dummies is a 60-minute DVD, ideal for both the first-time and intermediate Pilates exerciser. In the Basic Workout, well-toned instructor Michelle Dozois clearly and patiently presents 18 classic Pilates mat exercises, first demonstrating and explaining, then doing 6 to 10 repetitions. She explains what the Powerhouse is and how to use it, and covers the basics you'll need if you've never done this before (or need to be reminded), offering alignment tips, breathing, and extremely clear instructions for executing each movement. Dozois suggests modifications for making the exercises easier (or, occasionally, more challenging), and includes cautions against common mistakes and reminder tips for doing each exercise effectively. This is a fine first workout for Pilates novices. The Intermediate Workout consists of some of the Basic exercises and several new ones, all done at a faster pace and with more challenging instructions. This is a workout you can progress with! --Joan Price

Love this DVD! I've been using this workout for the past 6 years. BIG DEAL to stick with a workout DVD that long! The instructor is easy to understand, and you do improve your strenght just like they promise.

Once you master each move, you can get through the workout pretty quickly (about 20 mins). Perfect for those mornings I just can't make it outside.

Great Exercise With Results

by Bigwig Y from CA on 2010-06-21
This is my third beginners Pilates DVD and I like this! Instruction is very clear and easy to follow and the routine enables to use the whole body. Only problem is that the each movement is done too fast. The instructor does 10 repeats while I can do only 6 or 7.

Yes get it!

by Evette Burch from Texas on 2010-05-18
I am 38 yrs old and I have never done Pilates before - but I do enjoy stretching and getting a good workout. This DVD does both! I'm a busy mom and dont always have time to workout and dont like the fast pace aerobic workouts - but this I could do everyday! Its great for beginners to learn the basics and step by step techniques to Pilates. I would recommend that you watch it through first and keep a remote (to pause) nearby. Because the instructor is "an expert" she tends to go through the techniques with ease when I'm just getting it down - she's on to the 2nd rep. I also like that you can choose which exercise you want to do. And just like all "Dummies Books" there are helpful hints and tips along the way. But again - watch it through first b/c some of those helpful hints come when you've already done 3 reps - then you realize your not quite doing it correctly. I would definitely recommend this DVD!

Great accessible workout for beginners

by Verseau from Suisse on 2010-05-09
I am very happy with this DVD. You get to have two routines to follow as you progress and lots of explanations. All the basics are covered. It's easy to take your cue from Michelle Dozois, she's got great educational skills. My level was a beginner's level who only followed several lessons once a week during 3 months with a great Pilates teacher. She showed me how to hold on to the right pilates posture, she was quite focus on the posture because it's a key element to do pilates efficiently. Then I moved away and went to a diffent gym center. The pilates courses were dreadfull and that's why I bought this DVD. Michelle is definitely an inspiring teacher and I would recommand this DVD to anyone, even true beginners who never tried sport before. Some top fitness teachers should closely watch how the "for dummies" collection is built, in regards with the menu, the informations and the instructions you get. It's safe and enjoyable with no delay. It's surprising how some workouts are filmed like music videos. In this video the focus is on the exercice core, not on the teacher's face or the decor. If you wanted to work with a smart DVD and are not afraid of being a dummy for a while, then this one is a great DVD to own.

Too easy!

by K. Brewer from New York, NY on 2010-06-03
I bought this because of FITNESS magazine's recommendation: The magazine claims that it would burn 700 calories for the workout. Not so. I probably burned 50. I was looking for a DVD that gave me a little more cardio, and thought this might do the trick. I didnt even break a sweat!

I am extremely dissapointed in how easy the DVD is. There is nothing exciting or challenging about it!

If you are a TRUE beginner, this may be for you, but I wouldnt recommend it to anyone with even a moderate amount of physical activity. How can FITNESS Magazine call this one of the Top 10 DVD's out there?

The more you do it, the better it gets

by Renee Krajcik from North Smithfield, RI on 2010-04-07
I was looking for a workout DVD that would really get my heart pumping. I found this online as one of the top-rated DVD workouts for burning calories, so I decided to try it. I've never done kickboxing before, but I had no trouble learning the moves. Keli is great and definitely not annoying, like some other DVD fitness instructors. But after the first time I did it, I wasn't very tired at all. I didn't feel like I had gotten the great workout that the review I read had promised, and I was a bit disappointed. However, the more I did it, and the better I became at executing the moves, the more I started to sweat. Once you learn to do the moves correctly and really put your all into it, you'll feel the burn and get a great workout. But it's really up to you to keep practicing the moves and challenge yourself by punching and kicking harder, rather than just going throught the motions. And after doing this workout 4-5 times a week for the past month, my butt and thighs look great! :) I would definitely recommend it.

DO THIS YOU WILL LOVE IT.

by M. Daniels from on 2010-02-19
This is bar none the best workout DVD I've ever bought. Keli cues you really well and even if you do it daily (like I do!) she doesn't get boring. The workout is INTENSE but it works wonderfully. You really feel it in all your muscles. Plus, it's an awesome stress reliever. I do it every day JUST for that reason alone. It really helps break out all the accumulated tension throughout the day. It's so easy and really enjoyable and really gets your heart pumping! I HIGHLY recommend this DVD!

For Dummies, I think not...

by Ashley from on 2009-11-14
Ok I am not an avid exerciser, but I am active. I saw this DVD as one of the best workout dvds, so I decided to purchase it. I receive and it is so hard to do. The tutorial even goes fast. I can say that this is not a dvd for beginners, dummies, or anyone that does have stamina for an extremely long, high endurance workout. It will take me months to get through one work out. The dvd is very fast paced and hard to keep up with...UGH wasted money!

Fun workout

by Tea from new york, New York United States on 2009-10-19
I'd say this was a fun workout. It's a good change if you want to mix up your workouts a bit, but I didn't find it as tiring as a typical workout for some reason, and I'm a kickboxing novice. I certainly don't think I burned 700 calories, as one of the reviewers suggested they were burning. As a beginner I found the rapid moves a little challenging and required concentration, but it's easy to catch on if you stick with it.

Description

The long-awaited update of the trusted yoga book A decade since its initial publication, Yoga For Dummies, 2nd Edition has been updated and revised to include coverage of the newest concepts and practices that have emerged in the yoga community over the past ten years. Still maintaining its emphasis on safe approaches to the physical practice of yoga, Yoga For Dummies, 2nd Edition breaks down the concepts and poses, making yoga easy-to-understand and easy-to-apply for everyone. Yoga has been bringing health and peace of mind to millions of people for five millennia-and it can do the same for you. Turn to Yoga For Dummies, 2nd Edition to find out how to unlock your body's extraordinary potential, while strengthening your mind as well. Focuses on Hatha Yoga, which works primarily with the body through postures, breathing exercises, and other techniques Specialized yoga instructions for all ages, as well as partner yoga Practicing yoga during pregnancy, as well as yoga relief for women in mid-life Using restorative yoga and yoga therapy to combat chronic aches and pains Whether you're a beginner or a yoga guru, Yoga For Dummies, 2nd Edition gives you the tips and techniques you need to experience the health benefits of yoga as part of a complete wellness and exercise program.

Yoga for Dummies proves that this 5,000-year-old Indian discipline can be all things to all people--the athlete striving for more-limber limbs, the stressed-out professional needing mental calm, peace, and clarity; the pregnant mom-to-be looking to keep herself toned and her emotions balanced, the spiritual seeker wanting to access the higher planes of consciousness. Georg Feuerstein, Ph.D., and Larry Payne, Ph.D., are internationally recognized yoga experts. After explaining how to prepare your body and mind for yoga--including warnings about how to practice safely--they jump straight into the postures (asanas), instructions for which make up the meat of book (relaxation, breathing, movement, sequencing, compensation, sitting). Feuerstein and Payne carefully and in great detail lead the reader through every step, although they do advise first-timers to supplement the book with actual classes until they have the basics down. Throughout the book, clear explanations accompany black-and-white photos and drawings. (Unfortunately, following the written instructions is hard enough when your feet are in the air or your head's down by your ankles, and the book would have been improved if the pictures always appeared on the same page as their instructions.) Readers then learn about tailoring a yoga program to their needs; using props; practicing "Yoga Throughout the Day"; incorporating yoga into sex, meditation, menopause, and pregnancy; using yoga to treat back problems and PMS; and practicing yoga with kids. The book also covers yogic ethics, philosophy, and resources. It's not all asanas and pranas, though--Yoga for Dummies is sprinkled with the humor characteristic of the For Dummies series (a section explaining that the ego is the ultimate source of stress is titled "Wherever ego, I go") and practical advice (the Forgiving Limbs maneuver allows you to bend your legs and arms a bit rather than try to fully extend them, so that you can perform postures you're not yet quite limber enough for). This is both an excellent beginner's guide and a good reference for more advanced yoginis who want a brush-up course. --Stefanie Durbin

Fast Results for Slow Learner

This book truly helped me with my slow learning when it comes to anything athletic. After suffering embarassment in classes because it takes me a long time to "pat my head while rubbing my tummy", I found the book helped me understand the basics. I have improved by going slow and steady. Now I am confident enough to use programs on basic DVDs and to even take a class.

Don't be a dummy, pick up this book

I have read several of Feuerstein's other yoga books - always full of information, but a little dry and tedious. This book cuts straight to the chase and gives the reader quick, easy to understand tidbits. If you want to have quick to the point answers about yoga, this is your book, written by one of the foremost respected yoga scholars.

I was a big fan of the first edition of YFD and I know Yoga is thousands of years old -- so I was plenty curious about how it could be new or improved. Was I surprised! The new volume has many new sections. My favorite is Prime of Life Yoga. For those of us in midlife who cannot stand on our heads and have no interest in training for an Olympic event, this is the book! The routines are gentle yet challenging...I recommend it for anyone over 40 looking for ways to stay healthy, stay in shape and feel good!

Don't Bother w/ Miniature Edition

by H.J. Farnsworth from NYC on 2009-06-04
Firstly, I love "For Dummies" books, but the Miniature Edition of "Pilates for Dummies" was a complete waste of money. When I received the book, it was literally about 2 inches long by 2 inches wide, and a paragraph takes up ONE PAGE of this "book", making it nearly impossible to read without getting a headache. There are also no illustrations to explain exercises (they really wouldn't fit anyway). DON'T GET the Miniature Edition!

The first part of the book explains what Pilates is, such as controlling movement, maintaining stability, and why breathing at particular times in the exercises is important, and it gives examples of these that are easy to understand. Then it goes into what the words neutral spine, abdominal scoop, pilates first position, etc., actually mean, and how to do them.

The mat exercises contain 4 levels: Pre-Pilates, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Not knowing anything about Pilates when I started, I began with the Pre-Pilates workout. Because there are multiple steps to most exercises, it did take some time to remember when to breathe, when to roll up or down, but once I got that down, it made the subsequent levels of exercises easier to learn. Also, a few of the exercises were impossible for me because I didn't have the strength to do them, but I just did what I could, for example the hip-up, I would lie on the mat with my feet in the air and worked those abdominal muscles although my feet were going nowhere, and within 2 weeks I was doing all 9 hip-ups. You just have to do a little more each time. The beginning mat series contains some exercises from Pre-Pilates and it's not very long, so it wasn't too difficult to learn.

The intermediate mat series is where I really felt I was getting a workout, and I still use this one, although I have added some to it since. It really felt as if I was getting an intense abdominal workout and after adding the variations for the side kicks, my legs definitely got stronger. The advanced series I have done a few times, but it is rather long, about an hour compared with 20 minutes of the intermediate, and I have trouble finding time for it.

The next section deals with Pilates accessories such as foam roller, magic circle, and big ball, and give some exercises to do using those. Overview of Pilates equipment just tells what some of the things are you might find in a Pilates studio and shows pictures of people using them, but gives no exercises.

Overall this is a great book that I would recommend to anybody interested in learning Pilates. Thanks to the wonderfully detailed instructions, I believe I am getting a safe, effective Pilates workout.

Pilates - a superb reference

by Carol J. Geortner from on 2006-07-29
I borrowed a copy of the book from my local library and liked it so much I bought it for myself and for my daughter-in-law.
I attended a Pilates class and told my instructor that I had the book - she remarked that it is one of the best and recommended it to the whole class here at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

The book gives excellent explanations. While the class gave me a sense of how a flowing routine will work, I can do it at home with the aid of the book.

I recommend it highly. Thanks, A Pilates Dummy Fan

Great if you already have some body knowledge

by Spiralina from San Francisco, CA USA on 2005-10-17
This book was one of my mom's rejects for the reason that she couldn't make head nor tail of the instructions. I like it quite a bit, but I have a background in modern dance and was already familiar with isolating different muscle groups. I think if you don't have a good sense of your body already, this book might be too confusing to start with.

So far there's a lot of good material for me to work with, although much of the book is dedicated to repetitive touting of the benefits of pilates (yes, we already know it tones) as well as super-advanced exercises using complicated equipment, which aren't really "for dummies." Still, the workouts are fun, challenging, and feel good on my body. I would recommend glancing at the instructions before buying and seeing if they make sense to you. If they do, you'll probably like this book -- otherwise, maybe try a video or simpler book.

A good guide if you buy the Pilates hype

by from on 2003-08-23
This is probably the best guide you can buy for Pilates. It is easy to understand and does not try to mystify or complicate the subject. It has good pictures and descriptions of exercises, most of which are good, but more than a few I think are really a strain on the back. I am not really enthusiastic about Pilates. I think basic callestenic exercises are just as effective if done mindfully and correctly. Nevertheless, if you are convinced that Pilates is magic and you want to purchase a guide this would be your best bet.

Easy to follow

My purpose was to do a few streching exercises just before going to bed to release the tension created during the day. There are a lot of exercises in the book to choose and I found their instructions easy to follow.

Comprehensive book for the exercise dummy

by Pally from USA on 2009-04-18
I bought this book because I really was a stretching dummy. After being pretty sedentary for a few years, I have started working out again. I kept getting tightness in my arms and legs that I couldn't figure out how to stretch away. This book has cured that, showing me specific stretches for each area of tightness. Now I know how to stretch after I work out. I've never felt any tightness that this book didn't address.

As a bonus, it even explains why you should be warmed up before you stretch, that you need to hold a stretch for 30 seconds for the most effectiveness, what you need to stretch effectively (a towel wrapped around an extremity will help you stretch what you can't reach), and gives a few specific stretching routines for the office, pregnant women, children, seniors, and those participating in specific sports (basketball, skiing, swimming, and racquet sports). The only actual routine I've used is the office one... mostly I just stretch the muscles I worked.

The reason for the four stars is the organization of the book. It does go through by body region, but curiously doesn't include each stretch in that section. For instance, in the "upper body" area, it includes one chest stretch. But it lists two different ones in the "office" stretch. Why didn't it list all of the chest stretches all together so I could easily try all three to see which one worked best for me? I was able to navigate the book much more easily when I realized there was an index in the back. I looked up "chest" and it gave me the page numbers of all the chest stretches.

Still, all of the photographs were good, the writing was easy to understand, and it resolved my after-workout tightness issue.

This book has a variety of good stretches. They are well explained and well illustrated. They even have a special section on stretches that can be done at your desk.

Brita filter cartridges

by Paul Kahan from on 2010-08-21
The Brita pitcher and filters are great! I used to use Pur, and it drove me nuts. The filter wore out quickly and took forever to filter the water into the pitcher. The Brita filter is fast and lasts much longer before needing to be replaced.

Filter doesn't fit

I received the Brita filter as a wedding gift. To my surprise, the filter does not fit. The water just runs around the filter into the pitcher which defeats the purpose. I am very disappointed.

Brita Filters.... Exactly!

If you want Brita filters for a pitcher, these are them. They came fast. They came right. I'm pleased. No need to review the filters themselves (or delve into the intricacies of Brita vs. other brands) except to say that Brita filters make water taste better.

In our opinion, this is almost as good as it gets for a disposable home furnace filter. The construction quality is top of the line. The filtering efficiency is outstanding. The Filtrete Micro Allergen 1000 has our second highest rating of 5 STARS. Please note that these Filtrete filters measure approximately 0.3 inches smaller than the stated size in order to conform to industry standards.

Great Product!

by ShadowSky from USA on 2010-08-17
I like the way this product is neatly packaged. You can store the box on a shelf and take the filters out as needed. They last 3 months and they really collect a lot of allergens and dust. This is my second order and I plan to continue to use Filtrete filters.

Great at Filtering, But...

by Exguyparis from Lansdowne, PA USA on 2010-08-12
This filter does a great job filtering; there was far less dust in the house. I started using them a few months ago, and replaced the filter every month. A few weeks ago, our furnace started making noise (kind of like a washing machine on the spin cycle). The problem: The fan motor was shot. The furnace was brand new, four years ago. Maybe I just had a bum motor... but after shelling out $1200 for a new fan motor, I've gone back to good old fashioned cheap filters!

Finding home A/C filters

by Scott Robohn from Fairfax, VA United States on 2010-07-03
These filters are just the ones I was looking for and they do the job.

But there are SO MANY different types of filters - it was hard to find them. It would be great if Amazon could provide some type of "buying guide" for selecting the right filters.

Cheaper at Home Depot - but not much cheaper

by E. Parrish from TN on 2010-06-07
I was ready to buy this 6-pack again but decided to go visit the local hardware store with my calculator just to be sure I was saving money. The 1000 MPR Filtrete 6-pack price makes the filters $12.60 each. At Home Depot they are $10.70 and with our TN 9.25% sales tax that makes the filter $11.69 - so not a bargain through Amazon. I priced the 600 MPR and the 1500 MPR also and they aren't cheaper buying through Amazon either. Maybe for around $5.50 difference for the 1000 MP 6-pack it's worth having them delivered to your door. I may have just talked myself into buying these through Amazon again...!

Works great.

I prefer to buy OEM filters for my units and this 6-pack was a better price than any other retailer. They arrived on time and undamaged. I have two dogs and I live in Arizona, with the wet winter we had and the high winds we get these filters have been working over time and are doing a great job of keeping my air clean and my allergies in check. I would definitely recommend these replacement filters.

If any person in your family has asthma or other respiratory problem that requires clean indoor air, this device is the right answer. It is easy to operate, works with an easy to change single air filter, and cleans a large area of your home (almost 500 sq. ft.). The 3m Company and Amazon are two great enterprises to to business with.

This is my first time buying 3M filters. I had bought the allergen reduction filters by other companies. However, many service people have told me to only by 3M, even the AC service company I use. So....I am using them.

These filters are just the ones I was looking for and they do the job.

But there are SO MANY different types of filters - it was hard to find them. It would be great if Amazon could provide some type of "buying guide" for selecting the right filters.

Cheaper at Home Depot - but not much cheaper

As advertised!

by Jerry D. Cargile from SLC, UT USA on 2010-08-30
I used to buy these from Home Depot for nearly $17 a piece. To be able to buy them in a 6 pack at this price is awesome! I also saw them at Costco so that you could buy a 3 pack for about $36, but they didn't have the correct 14 X 25 X 1 size. If you are looking for a good filter at a good price, buy these!

Amazon Delivery Error

by Docpivot from on 2010-08-22
I've used this filter for approximately two years and it does an excellent job - it appears to be capturing everything. I have no complaints. However, Amazon did send me the wrong size - which appears to be a comman occurence judging by other postings. Amazon was prompt with a refund upon receipt of the product. The return process was easy and straight forward.

Good product

by Peggy Yang from on 2010-07-02
This is the best deal so far I found for this filter. The filter has better result than non-ultra allergen reduction ones, according to my nose. However, the filter does not last 3 month as they suggest. We need to check around 2 month, otherwise the filtering effect decreases a lot.

Pleasantly Surprised!

by Cinzia Amore from Los Angeles on 2010-05-13
I received a case of air filters at a reduced price due to a slightly damaged outer box. The filters insided were individualy wrapped and undamaged. I save over 50% off the retail price and received the product within day. Another great buy on Amazon.

Decent job removing allergens

by B. McGee from New York on 2010-05-06
Seems to have relived my sons allergy problems reasonably well. With the old filters I used, my some would start sneezing as soon as he walked in the house to visit from college. Since I installed this filter he is definitely sneezing less.

six pack fridge

Many people who want to cook delicious joints and in-season cuts of meat at home don't know how to store their meat once bought or prepare it for cooking.

Online gourmet butchers Broad Stripe Butchers

have put together some simple tips to make storing and preparing your meat ready for cooking easier than ever.

To be safe, your fridge should be between 0 ºC and 4 ºC. Put uncooked meat lower in the fridge than cooked and make sure you handle the meat carefully, particularly vacuum-packed cuts. Stacking too many on top of each other can make them split.

Meat really needs to come up to room temperature before you start cooking, as cooking times given are usually based upon starting everything off from room temperature. This will ensure even cooking throughout. So if you're using individual portions like steaks or chops, take them out of the fridge an hour before, and keep them covered on your kitchen worktop. For bigger, vacuum-packed things, take them out two or three hours before.

If you're not cooking all the meat in the pack at once, keep the rest on a plate on the lowest shelf of your fridge, loosely covered in cling film. Use it within 48 hours.

When you take meat out of a vacuum pack, you'll often notice a surprising smell. Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with your meat, and as the oxygen returns to the meat it'll disappear completely. In the same way, the colour of your meat will bloom. Beef and lamb will go a nice rosy red, while pork will turn a deep pink and veal a lighter pink.

To let all this happen and to make sure your meat is at its best, take it out of the vacuum pack at least an hour before you want to cook it.

If you are preparing leftovers, let any hot cooked meat cool down for about half an hour before putting it in the fridge. Wrap it in cling film to keep it juicy. If you decide to heat it up again later, make sure it's piping hot all the way through.

When freezing meat for another time, make sure you do so on the day it arrives, so that it will be really fresh. If your meat is vacuum packed, leave the packaging on when you freeze it. Once it's frozen, your beef will stay fresh for six months, lamb and veal will last three to six months and pork two to three months.

Nice DVD

It's a good DVD, and doesn't overwhelm you like a lot of others. Good exercises for beginners. She is very chatty, and sometimes her voice is just plain creepy. But she does keep you motivated.

Her video has a great deal of arm strengthening exercises, which is good, however I personally was looking for even MORE abdominal exercises than were presented in the video. In general this video is a great workout especially when used in combination with some serious cardio. I believe that anyone can see results with this video, but a healthy diet and cardio are definitely required. Unlike Jillian's videos where you get a total kick in the butt after one workout.

Excellent Toning!

by Nikole from on 2010-02-24
I love this workout DVD for toning, and accomplishes what you need to tone up those trouble zones! I have never really experienced working with the stability ball, but this DVD has me hooked! I just love Denise- she is motivating and very genuine. I think her videos are the best and because she switches up the exercises so frequently- you are like- wow am I done already? And then I feel so motivated, I do another segment, video or take a walk. So in addition to finding her DVDs very user friendly (especially trying to get back into shape), it really has helped motivate me for weight loss and exercise beyond the time using the DVD. One word to the naysayers- if you don't like her personality- why did you buy the DVD? She has been doing this 20+ years and she is who she is and I love her for it!

Love it

by Kelsey Eickhoff from on 2010-02-23
I got this video a long time ago and loved it. However it has been changed since the original copy was made. One of my favorite squat exercises was removed. Gives a good overall body workout and shows results if you keep up on it. I have always loved this video. I lost my first copy and had to buy it again

Good toning video

by L. Liu from Chicago on 2010-02-18
This is a good toning and strength training DVD if you already have a cardio DVD. It is good alternate this DVD with a fat-burning DVD. You will need two hand weights and a stability ball for this DVD. Stability ball really makes the workouts more effective. After using this DVD for several days, I realize how out of shape my abs are. I have no problems with the upperbody and lowerbody workouts, but the ab workout really kills me.

Great DVD for anyone of any age!

by A. Hall from Castle Rock, CO on 2009-03-11
I bought this DVD about a month ago.... havent done the whole workout quite yet, but I really enjoyed the beginning! It's very simple, and she goes slow for you to follow. A lot of the times I'll just skip to the yoga moves in the beginning to get a quick workout. For anyone wanting to learn bellydancing, young or old, this is a great DVD. I'd definitely buy others from michelle joyce!

Not all its cracked up to be

by Higher standards from on 2009-02-22
After I read so many of the reviews, I though I would really like this DVD. Its unfortunate that I don't. Since I paid money I'll keep and try to use now and then, but I think Neena and Veena do a much better job. I will give one credit that the modified dance moves do target some areas that I wouldn't otherwise be able to target. Overall, I'm not thrilled with the DVD, but its good enough to keep.

Good belly workout

by NT from on 2008-12-28
I bought this quite a while ago from Amazon. I really liked it, but it was too long and I never had time to get through the whole workout. Otherwise, it was great. I've since gotten rid of the workout. Not because it wasn't good, though.

Great workout

by Esther Brayton from on 2008-12-15
I am new to belly dancing I wanted to learn some of the basics. I also wanted to find a good workout that wasn't an obvious workout, like squats, lunges, sit ups, etc... This is not only fun but it is a challenging workout. I woke up this morning and my lower abdominals are actually sore! I have not found anything else that really gets my lower abs engaged. I am pleased with this product and would by more instructional dvds from Michelle Joyce.

body by bellydance: a workout targeting the female fat zones

by from on 2008-06-12
I shadow dancer purchased this product with high hopes, I own several bellydance for weight loss and better bodies along with the instructional dvds. Iam a bellydancing nut I love it. But this tape was not for me. Iam a intermediate dancer, I own all of Rania's bellydance for weight loss. Although not a fan of Rania's dancing(I find it a bit Robotic) I do like her weight loss dvds because they make you sweat. But this dvd was short, instructional but no real follow-up workout after the instruction, it was pure boring!!! Then to put insult in injury she goes into pilates mode, I didnot but a bellydance workout tape to do pilates i wanted a full 30minutes/1 hour of straight dance with the options of additional execrise. You donot get that here, if that is what you want try Temple of Jehan or Shape up n Hip out with Jillina. These are EXCELLENT n Enjoy the true bellydance Girls but not with this tape!!!

Whats wrong with you people?

by RUSH from BRONX, NEW YORK on 2010-07-26
Oddly there is absolutely no mention in any of these reviews about how much protein there is in this protein based product. Does anyone know? after all its a protein meal replacement shake. I don't care about how pretty the box is or how little the calorie content is or if it tastes great. If a person is not getting the proper amount of proteins to support proper workout then the product is useless. Protein, Thats the whole point. i wouldnt buy this product based on the reviews at all because they miss the effectivness of most crucial ingredient. Sigh, For the record it has 30 grams of protein. (thanks for clarifying that for me Gordon.)

fantastic

by I.A.M. from New England, USA on 2010-06-15
This is a great meal replacement. I even throw in to the blender 1/2 fluids that are apple juice and water, 1/2 banana and a strawberry. Yummy and filling. I do not run out of steam on the tennis courts anymore.

Yummy & Satisfies!

by Adrienne B. Johnson from Ridgefield CT on 2010-06-08
This is hands down the best tasting protein shake I have ever had! I do suggest mixing it with icy cold water in a simple blender bottle. You can do skim milk, but there's really no need. It is smooth, rich, thick and keeps me very full. I like that it isn't a high sugar cintent and it provides a great source of low fat energy boosting protein. There is nothing weird in this shake that gives people the jitters. I work in a business where I can't always sit down and eat a big meal, so this shake is quick, nutritious and simple. Best of all it really keeps me satisfied, and keeps me from snacking on crappy foods. By the time I get home I am still energized enough to do my workout. This shake is helping me keep my lean muscle and burn off my excess fat. One of my friends recommended this shake for me and I am so glad she did. I can take the little protein shake packets anywhere and convenience is SO key.

Lean Body

by Mrs. Stacee Spoerl from Grayslake, IL on 2009-12-19
Lean Body is a wonderful replacement product. We liked the chocolate flavor the best. We would either low fat milk or if we were making a special dinner treat add low fat choc ice cream and peanut butter. Too good!! The product is a little expensive but the convenience is worth it. We have tried Slim Fast and my son and I prefer this product.

Better than I expected

by eneri from Los Angeles, CA United States on 2009-11-16
I'm not a breakfast person, and my usual first-meal is a cup of coffee or the occasional unhealthy option of a bagel & cream cheese, a muffin or something with bacon in it. On the days that I skip breakfast, I'm ravenous by noon and find myself easily caving into temptation of french fries or the pasta special at the lunch stop downstairs.

I bought these meal replacement packs as part of a plan to get back into shape. It's only been a few days and so far I've just replaced breakfast with these shakes. I've been pleasantly surprised at the taste and how long it keeps me satisfied without making my hunger go out of control.

In conjunction with this purchase, I also got myself a single-serving, personal blender and a shaker cup. The personal blender has been a PHENOMENAL accessory and I don't even want to bother with the shaker cup.

I have a feeling the powder mixed only with water or milk as directed would be unacceptable to my palate. Instead, I've been adding a handful of frozen berries, low fat soy milk and buzzing it up in the blender with a few ice cubes for that perfect smoothie consistency. On days when I need an extra pick-me up, I mix in a bit of energy drink I haven't been craving coffee (flavor), but still need the caffeine kick. So far, so good! I'll report back if this product has any lasting power/results.

I bought Bella Cotton/spandex shelf bra camisoles in blue, pink, red and gray. I used to buy cossabella camisoles as they were the only ones with the shelf bra that I liked. Never again will I spend $60 on a camisole. I actually like Bella camisoles better - they wear much better. Great buy - great product.

My Favorite Running Bra

by K. Chadduck from on 2010-07-24
I love this bra! I try to run about 20 miles a week and participate in several 1/2 marathons a year. This is by far my favorite bra, offering great support and comfort. I tried several bras for volleyball, basketball and running and never really found one that was great until now.

One of my favorite things about this bra is no chaffing! Even with my Nike tank top bras, I have always needed Glide for my long runs to prevent chaffing. This bra is great w/no chaffing on short runs though I still use Glide for my really long runs just to be safe.

I know some customers indicated they thought this bra ran small but I think it is true to size. I am a medium build and wear a 36C typically. I just bought a second one of these bras and have recommended it to all my running friends.

Comfortable-not for the larger busted though

by Suz from nahant ma on 2010-06-25
I bought this bra based on the reviews. Seriously- there must be such different body shapes! I thought this bra was ok at best. Granted it is very comfortable, but I am a 36DD and this is Not supportive. So larger busted ladies may want to look elsewhere. It also gives the uni boob look. I dont mind that too much, while working out- but if I have to wear it on the way home from the gym and do some errands forget it..

Too much pressure on the neck and shoulders...

by H. Grosshans from Memphis, TN on 2010-06-21
I do not like this bra at all. I wanted a racer-back to keep the straps in place, but this was not what I was looking for. Although the bra fits, I feel quite a bit of pressure on my neck and shoulder muscles. It is difficult to exercise comfortably in this bra. It may fit smaller sizes better, but I would not recommend it for women with D or larger cups.

Great support, but itchy

by S. Messing from Northern Virginia on 2010-03-27
I love this bra's support...it is very supportive and alleviates any pain from movement. The three-level adjustment of the band is great. My only complaint is that the cups itch. Washing it made it a little better, so I am hoping each time I wash it it will become less ichy! Otherwise it is very comfortable.

Not for the big busted

by Garietta Falls from Los Angeles, Ca United States on 2010-03-25
I bought this bra primarily based on the fantastic reviews. As a big busted woman I find it very difficult to find a good sports bra. I think this bra tends to run on the small side. My girls were pushed up and through the middle of the bra. Running was impossible. Would be better for a-b-c cups. Would not recommend to anyone d or larger needing lots of support for high impact activity.

Great read for male & female trainers

by D. R. Martin from Orlando, FL on 2010-08-10
Well written and conceived. Should be read and studied by male and female trainers in their learning and teaching process when working with female clients. Gives insight into why women should be trained differently when it comes to weight and strength training. Highly recommended.

Easy to follow

by WindyCityGal from IL, USA on 2010-05-29
The book provides useful tips, variations on exercises and detailed instructions.
The illustrations are clear and detailed, highlighting the targeted muscles for the specific exercise.

There's even a step-by-step program suited for your body. I have not used it (I just got mine!) but I will look into it later.

Things the gym doesn't teach you......

Worth every penny. You learn the correct way & can reproduce it at the gym. It's easy, it's well put together & I take it w/me to the gym.
Every woman should read this before attempting w/o a trainer. It's also nice to show your trainer when he is doing it all wrong, LOL

Great book - easy to read, understand

by Linda F. from Central PA on 2010-01-31
I teach a fitness class for women over 50 and although this is not targeted to that age group specifically, many of the exercises parallel what we teach and passing the book around class and showing the women what muscle groups are being worked has help to motivate our group.

Very helpful

by Hannah Shoshannah from Portland, Oregon on 2009-08-24
This book really helps me see my body, and work the muscles I need to in the gym. The pictures are great, the instructions clear, and the exercises chosen are safe, fun and effective.

It also helped me get much more out of the services of a professional trainer. I read ahead and knew what I wanted to work on, had practiced the exercises, and knew how they felt. The trainer then could add his broad knowledge and experience to my program. I've had a lot of injuries, and so I needed to be cautious about being pushed. This book helped me have the clarity to ask for what I needed and work out in a way that is safe for me.

It's a great supplement to an Anatomy and Physiology class. Why not visualize and feel in your own body what you are learning in class?

Truly the Ultimate Book in Fitness

by S. Jo from Queens, NY on 2009-03-31
I wish I got this book from the very beginning. It comes with a comprehensive list of exercise routines and programs. It's also peppered with relevant information throughout- from general fitness to how to do an exercise routine better. It even has a recipe section that I'm looking forward to trying out. I was going to take off one star for the lack of an Index section, but that's just nitpicking.

Kindle edition offers some perks but many drawbacks

by bunnyrabbit4 from New Orleans, LA USA on 2009-03-22
First, this is a very good book. The ideas it presents are solid and workouts doable for the average person.

Pros: The kindle two offers much better images of the pictures than Kindle one. These are vital to understanding the exercises. It can also read the exercise description to you while you do them which is very nice.

Cons: The pictures are small and hard to see. Some pages with extremely small print that I was unable to adjust, don't work well with kindle. Because of the way the book is organized you need to flip back through many pages and chapters. The exercises are in one area and in an other part you will find the reps for the different levels. You can footnote some of them but it is still a time consuming page flip when you are doing your exercise routine.

I like the book enough to buy both editions because I want the audio descriptions to use while doing the exercise. Since you can just as easily read them into your computer and have it read them back, you may want to stick with the book version.

This is the complete book

by L. Bedell from on 2009-02-14
This book should be called the complete exercise book. This book touches on everything. There are sections for the abs, upper body, thighs, hips & butt individually and a complete total-body program as well. They provide ways to do various exercises at home and in the gym. There are even recipes for delicious low-fat meals. The color pictures looked great too. This a well put together book.

Fab Fitness Intro

by Jessica A. Schreier from San Francisco, CA United States on 2009-01-27
I just wanted a book that would help me get started. I'm a smart girl with a little gym experience who just wants to be healthy, I didn't want a book that talked to me like I was dumb, a fitness addict, or someone who'd never sweat a drop in their life. Thankfully, this book was that. Honest information, non-stigmatic, and encouraging with lots of pictures and great workout ideas. Love the personal testimonials, love the yoga section, and love the perfect amount of exercises offered to the reader. Minus one point for too many "don't I look awesome coming out of the pool?" pictures and not enough information on fitness routines you can do at home or how to adapt your routine to a non-fitness oriented environment. Maybe next edition?

OK

by Elsa from Oklahoma City, OK on 2009-01-02
I'm terrible I bought this book because a friend recommended it to me and I just haven't been able to follow through it. But, I am also bad at reading fitness books. It has found a good use as a nice prop when sifling beer out.

Boring waffle dressed up in high-falutin' language

by Missus Doc from where the dingoes howl on 2005-10-14
I agree with the Canadian reviewer. Jibber jabber. This book contains a lot of statements that are perfectly obvious to anyone with a crumb of commonsense. Dressed up in lots of fancy verbiage and selling it as a book.

I give it one star more than the Canadian reviewer for the simple reason that some of the information might be useful to ladies who learn to ride later in life, if they are not very aware of their body.

I was VERY disappointed in this book. Its review led me to believe I would learn philosophical truths, tricks and tips to enable me to adapt my aging body to continuing riding, and other important and useful information. Instead I read that badly-fitting saddles cause discomfort and that as I age I can expect to become less supple. Should I pay money to read that? I don't think so!

Extremely Dissapointed

by Jacqueline Richards from canada on 2005-03-21
I really found this book to be a big BORE!! I was looking more towards a fitness program of some sort but instead found myself reading through jibber jabber that never really got to the point...FITNESS AND PERFORMANCE.

Good book on improving riding skills and physical condition

by from on 1998-03-04
This book is somewhat esoteric but does have some very good exercises for the equestrian. The author discusses how the rider's physical condition can improve riding ability and position. Also how other factors, such as poor balance and bad saddle fit can cause pain for both the rider and the horse. She explains how common training myths and rider interpretation contribute to physical discomfort and what the correct response should be in order to maximize rider/horse communication. She also covers common injuries and their causes, proper saddle fit, diet, pregnancy, and aging.

A great book for female riders!

by from on 1997-09-08
A series of tips signaling key points on health, fitness, nutrition, safety, and comfort.

Discusses:
* Biomechanic and anatomical considerations for women. ( I would have bought
the book just because of these words!)

* Stretching and Strengthening exercises to enhance riding performance.

* Techniques to gain more performance with less effort.

* Saddle balancing and fitting tips.

* Safety tools.

* Riding and its relationship to aging, pregnancy, and lifestyles...
( would have bought the book just for that 1st "A" word in this phrase....)

* Nutrition and dietary factors in daily riding and competitions.

"The author takes us through the changing dynamics of women on horseback,
arriving at a new approach to riding effectiveness. Women now represent
over 80% of today's horse enthusiasts and riders. The techniques, equipment and
teaching methods used with horses, however, have not moved in step with the
growing involvement and influence of adult and young women... until now."

That's just the stuff on the cover!

Here's another reason why I bought the book... calorie expenditures:

120 lb female grooming a horse for 30 minutes =207 calories!
galloping for 20 minutes =148 "
trotting for 30 minutes =177 "
walking for 10 minutes = 22 "

Hey! this mythical creature expends 554 calories/hour!!! amazing! In
comparison to to other high activity sports like real swimming,
cross-country running, galloping is next. Then tennis, then HORSE-GROOMING. then
trotting is down 2 more categories including medium to low impact aerobics and snow
skiing! Walking is pretty low down on the list... just a bit lower, though
than sweeping the floor!

Shock! We are in a high calorie burning, high energy activity!

Ok, that's all the sneak preview you get!
There are many more surprises and new thoughts in here for you to stumble
into and exclaim.. AHA! or Wow in a reverent tone!

For starters, the price for the quantity is ridiculous. I'm actually ashamed of myself for spending that much on so little. Secondly, when I tried to roll it on, the stick broke. It also felt tacky and extremely uncomfortable. Maybe I wouldn't have chafed, but it was so uncomfortable I chose to wear a different article of clothing that I knew I wouldn't cause chafing. I would've washed it off if I'd had the time. I'm hoping the seller will accept a return.

Update: Seller did take a return and refund came quickly. Kudos to the seller. :)

Fantasatic Product!!

by Sheradan B. Hartman from Peoria, AZ on 2010-07-27
This product is genius! It is especially great for women after pregnancy...Also works better if you are a smaller person who just needs to tone and strengthen the ab muscles. It won't make you lose weight so keep that in mind.

No customer service on this product. Battery malfunctions

by poca from on 2010-07-13
At first very happy and excited to use this product, however, after about one month the battery stopped working and just beeps. Tried to contact customer service and the online web site and unable to contact anyone. No good numbers. It is a waste of money and absolutely no help getting it to work. The idea is great but very unhappy with the product.
I would be very careful about ordering this particular item. After it stopped working, I finally was able to reach a live person at Slendertone and was unable to help because he informed me the item was COUNTERFEIT. And slendertone is not responsible for this item.

Unfortunately only worked for a month

by jamoc from San Francisco, CA on 2010-05-20
Unfortunately this product only worked for a month. Once I replaced the pads and then replaced again, I received the "!" symbol on the unit. This meant 1. unit is not properly connected, 2. covers are still on the pads, 3. pads are worn, or 4. pads are not covering the metal studs attached to the belt. My problem was none of these items. I checked all 3 pads, still no luck. Very disappointing. Just go outside and run, best bet!

Never received my purchase.

by Rhonda J. Mccall from BREAUX BRIDGE, LA, US on 2010-03-15
I never received my purchase. Contacted company several times. Will b e filing a claim. Very disappointed!

Just needed some new pads and worked like advertised...

by Sara J from North Carolina on 2010-03-03
When I ordered the product, I ordered the belt that came with pads, and then I ordered a box of three replacement sets of gel pads for the belt.

With the pads that came with the belt, I wasn't experiencing what was on tv...the "feel of doing crunches" while sitting. I didn't feel anything but small stings. I was able to get up to 60, 70, 80 with no problem. So after about a week, I replaced the pads on the belt with the one out of the 3-pack I bought. And although these pads were also by slendertone, they were packaged differently. After I got them on, I was up to level 20 and started to feel the crunch affect. And at level 45 I feel like I am doing hard crunches. So if you have received your belt and are not receiving the advertised affect, try changing the gel pads. It only took two weeks, but I am finally impressed. :)

Description

Tired of ineffective workouts that sound great but produce less-than-optimal results? Turn to the P90X Extreme Home Fitness system, a bundle of 12 sweat-inducing, muscle-pumping workouts designed to transform your body from regular to ripped in just 90 days. Hosted by personal trainer Tony Horton, the series of DVDs will help you get lean, bulk up, or grow stronger, with an endless variety of mix-and-match routines to keep you motivated. The secret behind the P90X system is an advanced training technique called "muscle confusion," which accelerates the fitness process by constantly introducing new moves and routines so that your body never plateaus and you never get bored. The more you confuse the muscle, the harder your body has to work to keep up. And the more variety you put into your workout, the better and faster your results will be. By breaking old routines and opening new doors, secondary and tertiary muscles are constantly being activated and developed. In addition to the 12 DVD workouts, the P90X comes with a comprehensive three-phase nutrition plan, specially designed supplement options, a detailed fitness guide packed with valuable information on how to get the most from your program, a How to Bring It DVD that provides a quick overview of the system, a calendar to track your progress, online peer support, and much more. The DVD Workouts Each of the 12 highly diverse and intense DVD workouts focuses on either a specific set of muscle groups or a unique training technique. Workout One: Chest & Back. This superset chest-and-back-blasting workout emphasizes two classic upper-body exercises--push-ups and pull-ups--to build strength and develop shape. The combination of these two push and pull movements will help you burn loads of calories while simultaneously attacking, strengthening, and developing multiple muscle groups. Workout Two: Plyometrics. Get ready to go airborne. Offering more 30 explosive jumping moves, this intense cardio routine will keep you in the air most of the time. Plyometrics, also known as jump training, has been proven to dramatically improve athletic performance. If your sport involves a ring, rink, field, court, or track, this training will give you the edge. Just be prepared to "bring it" for a full hour when you leap into this workout, because there is no letting up. Workout Three: Shoulders & Arms. Nothing rounds out the perfect physique like a pair of well-defined arms and shoulders, and with its potent combination of pressing, curling, and fly movements, this routine will leave you feeling stronger and looking sexier. Whether you want to build muscle mass or just slim and tighten what you've already got, these targeted shoulder and arm exercises will give you the results you want. Workout Four: Yoga X. Yoga is a vital part of any fitness regimen, and is an absolute must for an extreme program like P90X. This routine combines strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and breath work to enhance your physique and calm your mind. Yoga X will leave you feeling energized, invigorated, and maybe even a little enlightened. Workout Five: Legs & Back. Get ready to squat, lunge, and pull for a total-body workout like no other. While the main focus of this workout lies in strengthening and developing the leg muscles (quads, hamstrings, glutes, and calves), there are also a handful of great pull-up exercises to give your legs a quick breather while you work the upper body. Workout Six: Kenpo X. Kenpo X was created to give P90X users a high-intensity cardiovascular workout packed with lots of punching and kicking combinations to improve balance, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. During this workout you'll learn some of the most effective ways to defend yourself, while at the same time getting your body in peak condition. Workout Seven: X Stretch. Stretching is the one thing that will help you achieve a higher level of athleticism over a longer period of time. The X Stretch routine is an integral part of the program, as it helps prevent injuries and avoid plateaus. The extensive full-body stretches that make up this routine use disciplines from Kenpo karate, hatha yoga, and various sports to ensure that your body is fully prepared to meet all P90X challenges head-on. Workout Eight: Core Synergistics. Each and every exercise in the Core Synergistics workout recruits multiple muscle groups to build and support the core (lumbar spine and trunk muscles), while at the same time conditioning your body from head to toe. Loaded with a variety of fun, unique, and challenging exercises, this routine will get you moving in all directions to maximize your P90X results. Workout Nine: Chest, Shoulders, & Triceps. Packed with an array of moves that target both large and small muscles, this workout will do wonders for your upper body. In just one full sequence you'll get a healthy dose of presses, flys, and extensions to push you to the brink. The results will be a stronger, leaner, and highly defined upper torso that will leave you looking awesome, with or without a shirt. Workout 10: Back & Biceps. With a host of curls and pull-ups, this routine will make it fun to flex those powerful biceps. But don't worry, ladies--by using lighter weight, you can focus on toning and tightening these showcase arm muscles without adding the size that most guys covet. Additionally, this workout also provides some great back definition that everyone can appreciate. Regardless of your goals, you will achieve them in dramatic fashion if you dig in and max out your reps. Workout 11: Cardio X. This low-impact cardio routine can be used in a variety of ways to meet your P90X goals. Use it in addition to your standard P90X workload when you want to burn some extra calories, or as a substitute if your body needs a break from the program's high-impact workouts. Whatever your reason for using Cardio X, you'll find it a fun, full-throttle, fat-burning workout that will leave you feeling lean and mean. Workout 12: Ab Ripper X. The combination and sequence of movements in this unique workout taps into not only abdominal strength, but true core strength as well. Master these 11 highly effective exercises and you will achieve vital abdominal muscle strength to benefit your overall health and physical performance. You'll also develop that highly coveted six-pack as you take Ab Ripper X to full throttle. It's extreme work that's better than any machine in any club. P90X Fitness Guide This is your road map and your plan of attack for using P90X. Learn guidelines for getting started and essential tips for how to make the most of the program. The fitness guide provides you tips to reduce your chance of injury; a fit test; recommended supplements and equipment; detailed instructions for stretching, warming up, and performing exercises; and guidelines to help you select which P90X phase to complete, whether Classic, Doubles, or Lean. The Nutrition Plan Following the P90X nutrition plan is just as vital to your overall success as any of the extreme workouts in this program. Specifically designed to work in tandem with the P90X workout routines, this three-phase eating plan recommends the perfect combination of foods to satisfy your body's energy needs every step of the way. P90X is not about quick fixes or miracle diets. It's about selecting the healthy foods that you want to eat, and determining the portion amounts that will provide your body with the right amount of fuel to excel during exercise. The P90X nutrition plan offers three phases. Phase 1 is the Fat Shredder, a high-protein-based diet designed to help you strengthen your muscles while simultaneously and rapidly shedding fat from your body. Phase 2 is the Energy Booster, a balanced mix of carbohydrates and proteins with a lower amount of fat to achieve additional energy for performance. And Phase 3 is the Endurance Maximizer, an athletic diet of complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and lower fat, with the emphasis on more carbohydrates. You'll need this combination of foods as fuel to get the most out of your final few weeks and truly be in the best shape of your life. GREAT value

by Matthew David Ritchey from Hollywood, CA USA on 2010-09-01
As with any exercise product (especially those shown in informercials late at night when you're gorging on Doritos and thinking it would be nice to have a six-pack....... abs or beer...), it's completely worthless unless you choose to change your lifestyle and commit to the program. But if you're willing to take it seriously, you can't beat P90X.

Not only does the program come complete with specific nutrition information, a variety of workouts and an interactive website, but Tony Horton is always saying "Do your best and forget the rest" and reassuring you that even if you can't do the current workout now, you'll be able to do it in a few weeks if you stick with it. And he's right. Strength and endurance grows very quickly and if you follow the diet plan, you'll see results quickly.

I pause to mention that I started P90X over a summer where I could eat for free at work and so did NOT, in fact, follow the diet guide. Consequently, I didn't see the results that many people post online. HOWEVER, as a test, it was a success. Why? Because even though I wasn't as streamlined as I could/should have been, I've seen HUGE leaps in my strength and endurance and definite change in my physique. So using the diet guide correctly, you should see amazing results.

The workouts are TOUGH and some are LONG (an hour and a half of Yoga), especially if you're relatively new to working out. Most likely, you won't be able to hang with some of them all the way through even after two months - but this is a great motivator, as long as you don't let it get you down! There are two camps about Tony Horton's training style - you either love how corny he is or he gets annoying quickly. Either way, his motivation far outweighs whatever you may think of his style and the handy time bar and visual prompts for each exercise make it easy to follow what's going on should you wish to use your own music mix and turn down the video volume.

Another great motivator, by the way, is the included DVD "How To Bring It" where Tony shows you a short version of how the whole system works and gets you excited about doing the program. On days when I truly did NOT want to exercise, I'd force myself to watch this DVD and a bunch of the P90X Results videos posted on YouTube for inspiration. It never failed.

I HIGHLY suggest purchasing an array of weighted exercise bands at the same time you purchase P90X. They're mandatory unless you already own or plan to buy both a pull-up bar and a full set of dumbells. You won't be able to do the program unless you have these.

The website is great for not only planning and recording your workouts (which is a great motivator) but for connecting with other people using the program and getting answers to questions you may have. There is an additional fee to use some of the online things, but you can set up a profile and do many helpful things for free.

I never thought I'd work out at home and I certainly never thought I'd use an exercise video. But if you commit to pressing play every day, you quickly find that the workouts are so engaging (and sometimes so difficult) that your brain goes on autopilot and you put all your energy into the workout instead of wandering around a gym waiting for a bench to open up or trying to remember what comes next in your routine. Well worth it.

"Come on, come on, Bring it! X me!"

DVD's unplayable or skip - Seller unresponsive

by cjraye from on 2010-09-01
I wanted these DVD's for a long time and finally the price was right. Free shipping and speedy delivery was a bonus. The problem was with the quality of the disks. Everyone of them are scratched from the way they are packaged I suspect. They come in a wallet. The sleeves are made of some type of construction paper.

Once I made the commitment to start the program I discovered the effects of the scratches... skips and freezing. I am still on phase one, 6 disks and 2 of them are faulty. I have attempted to contact this seller Five Times without a response. The P90X program, price and speed of delivery gets a 5, the sellers customer service, response to your issues and quality of merchandise gets a zero.

Purchase from this seller at your own risk. If you're lucky enough to get disks that play, you'll be very happy with your purchase and savings.

Note: Don't even try to read the user guide, you'll drive yourself nuts with all the typo's. I'm not just talking about a few... there are hundreds.

Worked for me

by Peaceful Idiot from on 2010-08-30
Let me preface my review by saying that I've never stepped foot in a gym or lifted a weight in my life before I started using Beachbody products. I am 5'10" and was 225 lbs and had zero definition when I started (obese bmi...). I read the reviews here and started with Power 90 on Jan 3rd, 2010. All you need for that one is dumbbells or bands. I lost 40 pounds. Power 90 is pretty short and includes stretching and cool down, which was very appealing to me. It was basically two workouts you alternate for the first 45 days, and two more slightly more intense ones for the last 45 days. I also think Tony Horton is good at motivating.

Power 90 was a great prep for p90x, after 90 days of power 90 I was able to get into p90x. Granted I couldn't do many pull ups when I started p90x but I can now that I've done it a while. Goals. Download and fill out the sheets in p90x. Track your progress.

For p90x, I needed a pull up bar (or bands), and I got a yoga block (highly recommended!) and pad too (and have since gotten some mats for plyo), I lost 20 pounds. Much more intense than Power 90, longer and more varied. I was only able to do 1 pull up when I started, I was able to do 10 by the end of the first round and can do 12 or so now. Yoga is the longest at 90 minutes, if I don't have 90 minutes I only do the first half, it is split between 45 minutes of Ashtunga Yoga - Sun Salutations and Vinyasas - and 45 minutes of poses. I do the stretch about half of the time, the other half I take the "rest" option, heh. I usually do abs for 20 minutes (see below) during my lunch hour at work. Just do your best and forget the rest :p

I'm currently on second round and have lost another 10 pounds. I read about combining the Ab Ripper 200 from Power 90 with 20 reps each (instead of the usual 25) of Ab Ripper X, so I tried that and like it and do it instead of Ab Ripper X. I also heard a lot people combine two of the cardio routines from Beachbody's Insanity program with three days of p90x resistance (plus Yoga and Stretch) to mix it up a bit. I really like the yoga, I try and do the 10 minutes of Yoga on the Cardio X routine every mourning (I haven't done doubles, which supplements another cardio routine into the mix, increasing the frequency according to the diet plan).

I followed the diet plan for both Power 90 (calorie deficit) and for p90x. I prefer the portion plan and have never used any of the recipes in the nutrition guides, although I may check out the salad dressings. The only Beachbody supplement I take is the recovery drink.

Bottom line, I was fat and now I'm not. I've lost 70 pounds and am 15% body fat, working towards single digits. I am great shape and feel great, all thanks to Beachbody. It works. If you aren't already fit enough to get through Power 90, than I recommend starting there instead of getting right into p90x, Power 90 doesn't cost as much plus you don't need to purchase a pull up bar or yoga block. I would recommend a set of the adjustable dumbbells that you can continue to use them in p90x. If you like Power 90 and/or max it out (or are already fit) you can "upgrade" from Power 90 to p90x, adding a pull up bar and a yoga block/pad to go along with the dumbbells.

This will get you in shape

by Stephanie Jones from Livermore, CA on 2010-08-29
These workouts are tough, and they will get you in shape. Some of the moves on the yoga DVD are advanced and should not be done by beginners. You don't need a lot of fancy equipment, but you really have to be dedicated. Tony is entertaining to watch.

Easy workout and gets results

by JWRN from on 2010-03-19
This workout is pretty simple and easy to follow after the 1st time. It really does get results after a few weeks of using it 4-5 times a week. I like the fact that you are lying on the floor the whole time (so it is good for those of us who are sometimes lazy!) I'm pleased with the purchase and hope to continue to see results!

Fabulous

by B. Taylor from Louisville KY on 2009-10-22
The accelerated fat burning work out is amazing. I've lost 30 lbs in 3 months with this being my sole source of exercise. I do it 6 days a week and love the results it gives my body.

I love it like a fat girl loves cake

by B. Holm from Salt Lake City on 2009-08-17
This DVD has sat on my shelf for 2+ years, and I had never used it once, until about a week ago. So I finally decided to dust it off, and give it a try. I am hooked.

This DVD is divided up into sections. You can watch an intro to the workouts, and it will show you how the exercises are done, proper form, etc. After you get the hang of it, you can go into the workout itself. I love that you don't have to watch the 'how to' section every time you work out. The menu is easy to navigate, and allows for easy switching between workouts.

The 20 minute circle workout is awesome. Having the resistance circle adds a lot to the workout, and really forces you to concentrate on your form. I was really sore the first few days after doing the 20 minute workout. Now that the soreness is wearing off, I've added the 10 minute sculpting workout and I do them back to back.

Mari Winsor does a great job of explaining the exercises, reminding you to breathe, and reinforcing good form. Simple to follow, and the exercises seem to flow nicely. Great for beginners, these workouts are challenging, yet easy to learn. Its rewarding to see my body toning up in such a short amount of time.

I enjoy this DVD immensly, and it motivates me to get out of bed at 5:30am to work out.

Not what I was looking for

by J. Sisneros from Sacramento, CA on 2008-05-01
I have the basic workout on VHS and wanted to upgrade to DVD - however the 20 minute workout in this set is faster paced and a little more challenging (for those of you who complained the basic was too slow and too easy)I personally love the basic 20 minute workout which I bought in the set 5 yrs ago after having my first child and although I like aspects of this set I prefer the slower pace of the original 20 minute workout. I'm a little disapointed and am still looking to replace the 20 minute basic (without the ring and band and all the extra stuff that you get buying it from her official site)

For a lean, sculpted look

This set includes 4 workouts - Maximum Burn Basics, Maximum Burn Cardio, Fat Burning, Buns n Thighs, plus a cookbook and exercise planner. The exercises are practical, doable and effective. Mari Winsor has a no-nonsense approach. The cookbook provides low-fat recipe ideas. This fat burning program is a good package deal to help achieve a lean look.

Badly organized. Poor illustrations and instructions. Quite possibly the worst exercise book I've ever owned.
I will donate this to the library next trip so at least I can get 50% of the face value as a tax deduction.

Exercise ball book review

by Marilyn Cohen from Metairie, LA United States on 2010-06-14
The Ultimate Core Ball Workout book has excellent descriptions and photos of exercises to do on an exercise ball. The exercises are grouped not only by level of difficulty, but also by what part of the body is being worked, or if it is merely a stretch exercise. My back and core instructor really liked the book when I showed it to her, and she was able to pinpoint the exercises suitable for me.

Good book!

by joetagaz from Scottsdale, AZ USA on 2009-10-23
Very happy with this book. It's well laid out with plenty of pictures to help explain the various exercises. For most of the exercises the author has a beginners, intermediate and advanced option.

Surprised !

I am pretty fit and when I first rec this it looked too basic. I tried one or two exercises and found that this can be very intense! Great techniques on stretching, and form for best results. As I explore each exercise I am learning something new thats helpful!
Worth a look!

Very good book

by A. Connell from on 2010-05-18
This is one of the best books on strength training I have ever read! But this book is a dry read and is not for everyone. The information in this book is great and very scientific. You will learn a lot in this book but you must be willing to think outside the box to put the information to use. This is not a book that you can read and pick out a workout routine, but this book will help give you the tools to build a great workout routine if you take the time and effort to apply the principles from the book. If you love fitness and buy Men's health/fitness then this book is NOT FOR YOU. If you know who Mel Siff is and you like his book then this will be of interest to you. This is a text book, and in my opinion a great one. I am very glad I bought this book.

Written for coaches and physiologists

by J. Kellam from USA on 2010-01-01
I have mixed feelings about this book. First, the good stuff: it contains a good review of current scientific literature relating to muscle development. It contains (I assume) good instructions to persons who are seriously training for regional or international competitions in weight lifting, gymnastics, track and field events, swimming, baseball, and others. The text is not centered on any one sport; this is a good thing, since strength training is relavant to any sport. The book also has chapters dedicated to special interest groups including pre-adolecents, seniors, women (with discssion of menstrual cycle), and persons recovering from injury. I learned a lot from this book and will use some of its material in a college course that I teach.

Things I'm less impressed with include the first few chapters in the section entitled "Basis of Strength Conditioning." The reader is bombarded with technical language and equations without sufficient explanations. The text is not dry; it provides great examples and contexts for the scientific concepts introduced in this section, but I found myslef a bit lost. This led to some misunderstandings later in the book when the same concepts were mentioned with regards to specific situations. I have a Ph.D. in Biology, so it's not a good sign that I got lost in places. Part of the probelm may be the unneccessary use of abbreviations that reqired me to use the glossary a little too often (I'm glad it has a glossary). Other than the introductory sections, I think the whole book could be written more succinctly. The text became repetitive in places.

I recommend this book to those with specialized interests: coaches, exercise technicians, elite athletes, and college professors like myself.

Fairly good book

by Book gobbler from Turku, Finland on 2009-09-01
This book was a slight disappointment, wasn't as good as I expected. Contains good info anyway, and I found some interesting new pieces of info, but also some errors. Due to some errors I can't totally trust everything in this book, have to verify some things from other sources before I could trust them completely.

As an example, in "Injury prevention" section authors recommend including "trunk rotations against resistance" in training protocols (page 147). This is totally against scientific proof, according to scientific evidence this exercise should absolutely be EXCLUDED. Check this in Stuart McGill's book "Low back disorders- ..." and you will find the right kind of advice on injury prevention.

Same goes for the recommendation on page 145: "Persons at high risk of LBPS (low back pain syndrome) should perform sit-ups with the legs bent, as in this position the load on the spine is lighter and the effect on the abdominal wall is greater." This is old and erroneous information, the new scientific evidence proves that there is not a great difference in the load on the spine even if legs are bent. The pressure is again high and exactly from the injury prevention viewpoint there are superior rectus abdominis exercises. Once again, check for example above mentioned McGill's book for the scientific evidence and better recommendations.

For the above stated reasons, I can't totally trust this books information, especially the injury prevention section is clearly not updated to take into account the newer scientific evidence.

Excellent book, but lacking in electrostimulation science.

by Giovanni M. Ciriani from Connecticut, USA on 2009-05-29
The book is excellent. However, the few pages mentioning (EMS) are dated and reveal ignorance of the progress made in this field since the mid '90s. It only mentions Russian electrostimulation, an inferior technique of the past; it is surpassed by current know-how and machines utilizing square-wave technology, such as the Globus Premium Sport Muscle Electrostimulator. The author can be forgiven for not knowing this technique, but discussing it from the authoritative pedestal that these two authors have, is misleading. It also doesn't understand how EMS can complement traditional training. See Wikipedia for a better explanation of EMS.

Best book on stretching

by Anthony L. Carlquist from Fargo, ND USA on 2010-02-06
I read many stretching books in college while getting a Exercise Science/PE degree. Each one was absolute garbage and a waste of time. Until I read this book I pretty much dimissed stretching as a waste of time and a proper dynamic warm-up would be just fine. This book changed my my opinion on the importance of stretching.

It explain why most stretching routines are outdated and can make you more tight. This book goes into great detail about how to find tight spots in your body that might be limiting your performance. The limits could be caused by injury, age, overuse etc. It also goes into great detail to explain tightness and pain at one point might be caused by from another point in the body. Case in point is I'm a competitive powerlifter. My hip has been very tight and has limited my squating. I did the self diagnosis testing and foudn out I had knots in my glutes which caused tightness in my hips. I took time and did a warm-up and some sport specific stretches before lifting as well as throughout the week when i was not lifting. Made a huge improve in my ability to squat without pain and allowed me to set up better on the bench press.

I will say do not buy this book if you cannot think on your own. If you are the kind of person that follows workouts blindly from a magazine than you won't like the fact you have to think on your own. You will find plenty of ineffective stretching books out there.

No Nonsense Guide To Stretching Optimally

by William G. Pratt from Connecticut, USA on 2009-07-18
Stretch To Win certainly delivers a very comprehensive overview on why and how to stretch using the Fredericks' Stretch To Win system. The book opens with chapters relating the anatomy of stretching to the basic fundamental principles of the system. It then offers the reader a chance to assess their own personal flexibility imbalances prior to describing how to correct imbalances and how to perform each stretch appropriately.
As a Personal Trainer, I have used the principles of undulating stretching with success on clients and myself. The book is geared towards athletes, but anyone who wants to improve their overall flexibility and joint health would do well to follow the instructions in this guide.
Two things I think they could have included more on however are: 1) A more indepth explanation on why it is important to stretch using different velocities surrounding practices & games, and 2) An emphasis that the practitioner learn more about basic anatomy and physiology as some of the knowledge given assumes an understanding of which muscles are which and what their function is.
Overall, this guide (although primarily intended for athletic competitors is usable by anyone) provides a clear, well-researched program for developing a flexibility program that suits the needs of anyone looking to enhance their own pain-free range of motion. It is useful for people looking to form their own program as well as trainers, doctors, and therapists who wish to use the techniques given on their own clients and patients.

A great stretching book for ALL flexibility levels!

by fitnessprincess from USA on 2009-02-24
I like this book because it is very informative. The stretches are great for all flexibility levels- but especially for men. There is very specific information in this book about myofascial release and increasing flexibility through stretching techniques. I found this book very helpful.

This book will stetch your brain as well

by K. Baldo from NJ on 2009-01-19
As a runner I purchased this book in hopes to understand why, how and when to stretch. The book answered the how and why in detail. As far as when, well that is what this book is all about. There is no one answer. The book tries to offer you a way to customize your own stretching program based on your needs. It walks you though a thorough assessment to help guide you on what stretches you would want to perform before and after your event or exercise (ie. running). Where the book fails is the ability to really implement a customized program. After reading it the entire book I was left with more knowledge but very little on implementation. I did incorporate many of the stretches in the book in my routine and changed a few things before and after my run as far as the type of stretches. I would suggest this book for anyone looking to put meaning to the stretches.

I love to plan, and this book makes it so easy to write down my fitness goals. It has everything I would have made myself - weekly/daily goals, space for positives and negatives, inspirational quotes, check boxes for what was accomplished, basic body measurements, etc. These are exactly the types of things I think about lying in bed at night. This book will help me get to sleep sooner =)

Oh, and the book is about 6 x 6.5 inches, and 1 inch thick. Fits perfectly in my purse!

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

This book is amazing! I've actually made my own fitness book which is not nearly as nice as this and was such a pain to tell Kinko's how to put it together. I don't have to look any further!

With this book, you can keep track of workouts, log food entries, put in goals, medication info, etc. It's so handy. I've been searching for a book like this. And they included a pen!! The only down side to this book is that it is too pretty to write in. :)

Happy Health to all!

Great motivator

by S. Niederberger from on 2010-06-13
I just bought my first fit book about 5 weeks ago. Using this book has helped me keep track of my nutrition and exercise in such a way that I've lost some pounds. The nutrition page has room for notes for each meal as well as a face that you can circle. If you made a good choice for the meal, you can circle the smiley face. There is also a frowny face and a neutral face. At the bottom of the nutrition page, there is a tracker that you can use to track the food groups you've eaten so far. On the exercise page, you not only record your workout but you can also rate it. The choices are killer, good, so-so, blah, and oops-I missed it. I have found that I can't wait to record my workout once I've completed it. If you're looking to lose weight, make healthier choices, or to challenge yourself, this book is for you!

FitDeck review

by Jesse Stoddard from Snohomish, WA on 2010-03-22
Fun little product. I have heard of people complain that once they did them a lot there was limited use, but I think it is fantastic that you can share it with others and use it to teach by. I am a personal trainer, so I can even play games like shuffling them and making the client pick a card. They pick their own exercise poison!

Fund product, and I will probably get the other decks too, eventually.

Pretty straightforward

by cakeman from fayetteville, ga United States on 2010-01-02
You get what you pay for with this deck, which is essentially a small travel workout you can easily take with you if you go out to use the TRX. You can of course shuffle the cards up and get a new workout every time out, which is cool, but once you learn the movements you can basically do that without the deck. I guess I would recommend this for folks that need a little help creating variety in their workouts, or just need to be able to quickly reference the exercises available to them. If you are using the TRX in one place all of the time (ie. you don't take it to the park or something) and tend to follow a standard routine for your workouts, this will not add much value.

The new Beverly Hills diet is based on eating the right food at the right time. The old Beverly Hills diet is severe and lasts for forty-two days while the new diet is more balanced and not too restrictive.

Dieters who follow the New Beverly Hills diet keep to an eating plan with three meals per day where carbohydrates should not be combined with proteins and otherwise, and fruits are eaten separate. It`s not important how much you eat or what you eat, it`s essential how you combine foods, according to diet specialists.

The New Beverly Hills diet allows proteins to be combined with proteins or fats, carbohydrates with carbohydrates or fats, and fruits separately.

In the morning, on an empty stomach, you may eat pineapples, strawberries, grapes, or green melon. Fruit intake is not restricted, however you need to wait for an hour or two before eating carbohydrates, fats, or proteins. If carbohydrates, proteins, or fats, were consumed, fruits are restricted for the rest of the day.

If the next food consumed after fruits contains carbohydrates, these foods are allowed without restriction until proteins are eaten. If you ate something that contained proteins, even a teaspoon of milk in the coffee, the food intake from that moment on, throughout the rest of the day, includes proteins only.

Fruit juice and wine may be consumed along with fruits, while the rest of the alcoholic beverages must be consumed along with carbohydrates. Champaign is considered neutral and may be drank with any food.

The meal where you consumed both carbohydrates and proteins is considered "open". If this happens, the next meals must include eighty percent proteins.

MY DAUGHTER LOVES THIS DVD

My daughter just loves this DVD! Paige is so adorable and the DVD is so much fun for my daughter and her friends! The Paige's Workout Party series is just wonderful and the dances are so much fun!

I should have read the other reviews

by Karine S. Ptak from on 2009-03-13
I completely agree with the other reviews I saw after I bought this DVD. My poor daughter was so disappointed! it is absolutely impossible to follow if you have no background and, my daughter said it best when she said "what is she doing? It's weird". The five minutes of watching Paige do her thing were awkward.

too hard

I read all the other reviews and most of the comments were that the workouts were too hard and they were right. My daughter only used the dvd once.

Amatuer dancer, no dance instruction, only 15 min including filler

by Lena, LMT from Nassau, NY on 2007-06-25
The menu gives only the workout & Bonus. I didn't check out the bonus, you'll see why. There are no chapter choices.
The production values were good, good lighting, good stage, good editing & camera work & sound. They even tried their best to make Paige look good by editing her dance withe her changing outfits mid dance & moving camera back & forth.
Starts with Paige showing off her dance moves. At first I wasn't sure if that was the routine or not since she she moved slower & stiffer then how the dance moves are usually executed. Pagie's dance ability would be above average at a local club, but she does not have enough talent, fluidity, grace, enthusiasm, style or coordination to teach anyone how to dance. She reduced any great moves to a lame simplified core. Hence thinking she was showing modified version that you will learn. I was wrong, that was her at her best.
It then has about 2 min of her drawing on paper with her 2 guy & 2 girl "friends" her age & some stiff acting with some young kids asking what they are doing. "Were about to dance... we have a lot of work to do...."
The teaching (if you call it that) is very quick. "Ok, stand like that, now strike 3 poses..." (Prearranged old school stage posing) "Like this?" "Perfect, next..." She then shows 20!!!!! moves in 7/8 time at ONCE. "Ok, stand, jump out, jump in, step out & in, strike a pose, girls only nod your head & shoulder, boys stay, step kick, side up, walk in a circle, jump back...." She was barely slower teaching then she was dancing her normal speed. You then do it 1x w/music... learn another 20! steps at once, do it 1x with music, learn another several steps & then do the WHOLE routine from the top about....5x? then they get all dressed up like they're on stage & do it all again about 10x. That's it.
The song is bubblegum pop cute, you dance to the chorus over & over & over.....
There were some great moves, but they way she (the other dancers has the same amount of talent) did it, she took all the coolness out of it. She obviously has had professional dance instruction, she called out some ballet French names & she does call out ALL of the dance moves with great timing when doing the dance. She just has no style or much grace or spirit or love for dance. Or understands you can't just show something once in almost true tempo time & expect a person to know how to move their feet.
This dvd was only 16 min INCLUDING her showing off in the beginning, the (what seemed like) 2 min of her drawing with friends & bad acting & credits.

This DVD was very disappointing. All you see is Paige flitting around with her friends. Her demonstration of dance steps is horrible. She only gives instructions once and you put it together immediately making it nearly impossible to catch on unless you are a professional hip hop dancer and already know most of these moves. I would never buy another of her DVD's.

Peter Alsop's Did You Walk? Workout Peter Alsop's Did You Walk? Workout

Description

Best Children's Recording of the Year Winner, Peter Alsop has done it again. This time it's a Workout music for kids. Peter Alsop's Did You Walk? Workout is great for PE teachers, or family walks! Humor and physical conditioning! Alsop's fun-loving tone is set in the very first piece, “Stretch The Leader”. One of the kids announces to Peter that they want to lead the warm up exercises for a change. Alsop agrees and groans along as the kids lead the stretches, (including lips and eyebrows!). “Did You Walk?” has catchy, foot-tappin' rhythms and a surprising variety of musical styles, from parade music to blues, choral arrangements with a back beat, hip-hop grooves, to world beat. Lots of drums and percussion, from dumbek to congas and bongos, to Japanese daiko drums and tymbales. During the “The Giggles Samba” Peter and the kids run into Mrs. McFrown who tries to get them to walk in a line and take physical conditioning seriously, which only makes the kids giggle more. Mrs. McFrown decides to join them and actually manages to smile. In “The Affirmation Alphabet” the kids yell a letter, and Peter says as many affirming positive words as he can. We hear so many negative things about ourselves growing up, that it takes a heap of positive ones to balance them out. “After The Rain” is a gentle cool down piece with piano, cello and viola, and “The Prize” is a wonderful poem read by Daniel, one of the kids, who doesn't like competition. It brings up many of the issues that surround sporting events, so we can discuss them with our kids. “My Body Runs” is a hip-hop type song about how amazing our bodies truly are, and how they know how to run themselves without us having to think about it. The music makes you want to move, the content is fun, creative and will generate discussion.

Excellent workout!

by Elena from United States on 2010-09-01
This program contains 3 DVDs.

DVD 1: Booty Basics, Bum Bum, Bum Bum Rapido and Bum Bum Live.

Booty Basics teaches you most moves in slower pace, preparing you for all other workouts. it really does help to follow Leandro's pace later on it you take your time to review Booty basics before you start.

Bum Bum is Leandro Carvalho's signature workout concentrating on working the butt, consists of squats, lunges, one of his signature moves called ipanema walk etc. It is pretty tough, it took me couple of trials untill i could finish that one. 30 minutes

Bum Bum rapido is a shorter version of Bum Bum - 10 minutes. Contains a lot of leg lifts, squats, some jumps. it is a really good workout and it's short so it's good for beginners. i started it 6 weeks after giving birth and love it because I was very out of shape but was still able to complete it and I did feel the difference right away.

Bum Bum Live - never watched

DVD 2: Sculpt, High & Tight

Sculpt is a 45 minutes workout using weights, working upper body, core, legs and back

High & Tight is about 35 minutes long and is my favorite workout using bands. it consists of 3 parts: standing workout using bands, floor work using bands, and floor work using ankle weight. it mostly works out leggs and butt. After this omne you can really feel qabove mentioned areas burning. I loved the bands!

DVD 3: Cardio Axe, tummy tuck

Cardio Axe - 45 minute cardio dance workout. So far i haven't tried it

Tummy Tuck - concentrates on abs. To be honest I've seen better workouts for the abs and I'd recommend P90x Ab ripper x instead. Much more effective

I have been using one of the programs from [...] and so far I've been using it for a little over a week but I already see my legs getting more definition. I just had a baby and pregnancy really took a toll on my body and I am very excited to see an improvement!

I have read other reviews saying that Leandro is hard to follow but I did not have any difficulty following after the second time i used the DVDs. Also it helped that I reviewed Booty Basics in the very beginning.

Good workout! Difficult for those out of shape, but I feel I will need somethine more later. Meaning that it will get easy quickly. Most workouts are about an hour long, because you are to use two different workout on most days.
I have started to see some changes in my rear after only working out about 5 times.
Good Luck!!!

Great workout that really makes your body change!

by Nastiasl from on 2010-08-26
I have just finished my first week of the Pear Solution cycle, and I am loving it. I was really jealous of the lean and toned bodies other people got from this workout. Plus, I was nearing a size 10 when I used to be size 6.

So far, my booty seems to be "rearranging" itself slowly, but steadily. I lost half an inch off my hips being already at normal BMI, and it's only been one week. However, the workouts were not easy, and they are definitely not for people who are really out of shape. I liked all the sections. They are mostly fast paced and you will need to be patient and not expect to be able to move like the girls in the videos right away. I had to pace myself and take 10 second breaks when I was feeling dizzy in order to go through the cardio parts, but believe me, it's absolutely worth it! Leandro is a very engaging trainer and he's not annoying at all (unless you just hate working out, lol).

I think if you are unhappy with your booty, you should try it. However, if you don't eat right, you won't get the results. You simply have to eat as much organic food as you can get. I also wouldn't rely on crazy shakes or diet supplements, but that's your choice. I think that eating fresh food, little sugar, lots of whole grains (carbs, yes!) and low fat diary products is far more healthy.

Also, you *will* sabotage your results if you:
- Drink lots of alcohol
- Smoke
- Drink sodas or reward yourself with chocolate bars after each workout
- Hit Starbucks too hard (caffeine washes calcium out of your bones)
- Eat more than you use up. I followed the Urban Skinny book to figure out my energy needs and portion sizes. I highly recommend it.

One more thing - do not follow the suggested Supermodel Slim Down plan, please! It will undermine your long term success. Whoever thought that eating only a 1000 cal a week is enough for a training woman must be nuts. At my height and weights I need about 1500 cal just to stay alive at rest, let alone work and exercise. You will lose a lot of water and then quickly regain it all in fat through binging, so be careful with it. Best results are slow and steady results.

Good luck! I'll try and keep you posted with my progress.

UPDATE 09/01/2010
I am one workout away from finishing week 2, and I've passed the pencil test, yay! So far I've lost about an inch off my hips and half an inch off my thighs, although I managed to overeat twice (stress). No idea what my weight is (I don't own a scale), but my skinny pants that used to be tight now slide off my butt. Also, I ended up ditching the good ol' breakfast-lunch-dinner pattern and started eating a little every three hours. That solved my energy issues.

GREAT workout, some questionable moves...

by Beebopalula from Maui on 2010-08-25
Don't get me wrong, this system is a great workout. I definitely felt the burn! However, some of the moves may be a little too advanced for some who are not familiar with yoga or pilates. Some of the moves are not eased into enough so that you don't throw your back out! For example, there is a backbend at the end of the Tummy Tuck DVD that could be dangerous for some who are not as limber. Overall, this is a high intensity workout (even the basics's DVD) that could potentially transform your rear end. Also, you must somewhat practice some of the workouts before you can jump into the whole routine. I say this because the workouts are pretty fast paced and you could be hastily doing some of the movements just to keep up...and this is how you get hurt.

OMG IT really works

by D. Mattoso from USA/ Brasil on 2010-08-25
Anyone, ANYONE trying to loose weight, OR gain weight, or simply looking for an awesome work out session should invest in these DVD's. It really works. My goal was to gain muscle (or some) since I am a skinny girl, and my metabolism is 'uber' high. After only 2 weeks of excercises, proper eating and lots of determination, I gained 2 lbs. and increased my thigh size approx 3 cm. I couldn't be happier! BEST invesment I have done in a while! LOVE it!!!

I really loved the zumba classes at the gym, so I decided to purchase them on my own for home use. The service of amazon was great, faster than I expected. But the videos themselves , I thought, were very confusing. I dont even use them now, because they just leave me frustrated. And He only speaks spanish.

Get on the zumba wagon!

by B. from Mesa, AZ on 2010-08-13
I took my first Zumba lesson at a gym that charged 10.00 per class. I had so much fun. It was easy, the instructor was great. She took her time showing us the steps.

I decided to save money by ordering the dvd's and workout at home. I am by no means, a dancer or even cordinated. I am doing these 3x a week to start off.
I'm still stuck on the beginner dvd, which does take you step by step each move, slowly and then they will pick up pace. I sweat and my heart beat does get up there so I'm ok with stuck on the beginners dvd for now.
I had to stop and reply a lot in the beginner to catch on to the movements. I told myself that it's ok, the more you do it, the easier it will get.

I tried moving on to the next dvd, however, they move so fast and they move their hips so much that the moves barely resemble what I learned on the first dvd and I have a hard time following along. So, until I get the moves down pat, I think I'll be stuck on dvd 1.

I refuse to give up b/c I do love Zumba so much. Just don't get frusturated. Stay at your own pace and it's ok to stop the dvd and go back until you go the moves down. :-) Either way, your working out, your burning calories, and that's the idea, right?

Have fun!

Description

With the goal to get kids moving, fitness expert Denise Austin leads preteens in a 20-minute total body workout incorporating elements of dance, hip-hop, sports drills, and yoga. It begins with a six-minute warm up of stretches and lunges, followed by seven minutes of cardio-funk, kick-boxing, and traditional aerobics. The program ends with a strengthening segment of push-ups, abdominal exercises, and beginning yoga. Effervescent Austin provides adequate verbal coaching to a dozen kids who perform the moves. This moderately fast-paced program assumes its participants are fairly fit at the onset and in only a few cases offers reduced levels of participation for varying abilities. No equipment is necessary and minimal space is required in this energetic option for general youth fitness. Don't miss the DVD's bonus episode, "Family Fit," a 20-minute workout designed for families to do together. It follows the same format as the "Fit Kids" routine, with the addition of a few exercises that require partnering for resistance training. One segment employs a basketball (or similar sized ball) which is the only equipment necessary. "Quality fitness, doing it together," is Austin's peppy mantra, which results in a corny but clever way to get families off the couch. (Ages 8 and older) --Lynn Gibson

Challenging But Good

by E. Herrera from Bakersfield, CA on 2010-06-26
I got this for my 6 year old niece who is a little heavy, but it's getting too hot to play outside or go to the park. My niece is coordinated and a good athlete but doesn't have any dance experience which made this DVD a little challenging for her.

I always exercise with her and show her the steps she doesn't understand. I can't imagine her getting through this on her own. So if you use these for plug and play, where you want your kid to occupy themself without your help I could see problems.

The pace is very, very fast and challenging for kids that don't have dance experience but the true test is if the kid likes it. And she did. There were a couple of giggle fits, and lots of laughing. She has about six videos so far, and though this was the toughest she liked it the most.

There are some basic aerobic movements, but the majority of the first workout is simple dance steps. Then she combines movements where you have to string simple steps into three or four compound movements. It's basic dance.

With everything we keep it simple, and keep it fun. As long as she's moving it's good. If you focus on your kid getting the steps perfect the first time you're going to feel dissapointed. If your kid gets frustrated easily you may want to pass on this one.

If your kid has any dance experience at all, it will be lots of fun. Overall a great workout for kids, very challenging and introduces basic dance steps.

Too Easy for 10 year old

by Lindsay E. Szejko from eastern PA on 2010-02-01
This was a cute idea but not motivating or challenging for my 10 year old. She wanted to start getting conditioned for soccer season and this was a waste of money for that purpose. May be good for younger kids who just want to get up and move around but not for anything more serious than that.

by ExerciseMom1 from on 2009-09-05
This is a horrible workout video! I should have listened to the reviews and not have bought it. It's not repetitive enough so my 6 year old had a hard time following the moves. It's also a very BORING workout. Boring setting, boring music and boring moves. Denise doesn't know how to motivate children. Don't waste your money on this one. Please!

TERRIBLE! IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS MAD IN THE 80's!

by from on 2003-10-12
This workout video is terrible. Really I couldn't believe what garbage it was. I was under the impression that it was a "current" product from the release date on the website. It looks like it is from the 80's and the kids look like they are wearing makeup---which I thought made it even worse. It's completely cheesy to say the least. There are many other current workouts that blow this one away!

I thought this tape was a complete joke. I have a 4 year old and a 9 year old. First of all who chose the ages for the video? It is absolutely not meant for children of 3 or 4 years old. I thought it was cheesy and not well made. Don't waste your money!

This is the best childrens workout video that I have ever seen! The children in my home daycare watch and do this video as oftenas I let them. The music is uplifting-catchy tunes that have agreat positive message. This is the kind of encouraging self-talkthat you want your children to have. The movements are very wellpaced and interesting enough to challange one to do the workoutover and over again. I also really like the fact that the instructors are such genuinely nice people.

There should be more videos made like this one !

There should be more videos made like this , all our kids would be healthier. The music is very fun , the moves are little bit hard for some kids but they can learn and get it with time. I love it for rainy days when we cant get out and play.

This non-stop action video was made to entertain as well as teach jump rope tricks and give a great workout. The viewer is transported around the globe from the Eiffel Tower in Paris to New York's Times square all while jumping rope to an original up-beat sound track. The video is well paced with breaks that teach new footwork and jump rope tricks. During the "fun jump sessions," jumpers are given the chance to workout in wild and wacky places around the globe. Optional more advanced tricks are taught at the end of the workout along with a shot of an 85 foot high dive (viewed from the top) from the leading lady herself, the hiphopper. This video is truly one of a kind!

I've seen better homemade videos

by from Concord, MA USA on 2002-01-02
The production quality of this video is appalling. It looks like some home video footage was later spliced into a brief, weak instructional set piece. Erin Moore can definitely jump rope, but she's a weak instructor, and the video goes nowhere.

I got this video for my 3 kids, aged 12, 9 and 5, and they've all watched it several times. They follow the video with a jump rope (recommend you get a jump rope for each kid or else they'll be fighting over it!). My 5 year old boy did the whole half hour workout and then wanted to do it again. I've never seen his cheeks so red! Great entertainment and exercise for kids of all ages.

Aerobic exercise in funtime.

Watching this fun way to exercise this 75 year old male wanted to run right out and get a jump rope.To think that a childhood pastime could be such an exciting, enjoyable way to get an aerobic workout at any age and enjoy it.Viewing this video wont make you into a high diver but it could help to make you physically fit while having fun.View it! Do it! Have fun!

Self esteem booster for kids

by Lori Van Houten, Educator from Alliance, OH USA on 2001-01-14
This video teaches neat tricks that kids age four to fourteen will be able to do. Rope around the world is full of interesting scenes the kids can watch while they practice to the music. After a brief "how-to," the child has time to practice before the next trick is introduced. Jump rope is an excellent (and inexpensive) way to develop motor skills, and it is good work out which disguises itself as play. My daughter, age 8, loves it.

Love'em, But carful when ordering...

by M. ECHEVARRIA from Miami, Florida USA on 2010-08-10
My daughter is a dancer and she loves this shorts. The only problem was when ordering, 3 of them didn't specify if it was Youth size or Adult size, and we got the Youth size when we wanted a Adult size. Be careful cause know I have to return them and see if the colors are available in the Adult size.

Could you help me with the size?

by Clara Escribano Garcia from on 2010-02-25
Hi,

i wear a medium, i am a woman and i just wanted to check if you can help me with my size

wrong colour wrong size!!

by Susan from Boston on 2009-10-09
1. the "Oxford" shorts are shown as a dark maroon kind of colour, which is what I wanted, but NO! I received them in a heather grey colour, even though the packaging still says "Oxford". So BEWARE! I don't know if it is a photo error or a packaging error; either way, not worth the postage to return it

2. they are small but NOT THAT SMALL! I read the reviews extensively before finally buying them. Previously, someone reviewed saying that she's an S-M and a XL would fit perfectly - which is what I bought. But both pairs arrived amazingly big. I think my boyfriend can wear them! I folded the waistband (note: elastic band, not strings) down twice and the shorts are still too long and too baggy and make my butt look 50% bigger. I'm a size 4 or 6 (ie S or M), and if I were to buy again, I would get size M, or at most L. So be careful when you up the sizes!

Unfortunately these were not a good buy for me. I gave it 3 stars, however, because I think if you were lucky enough to get the right size and colour, they would be pretty good and they seem very comfortable.

Nice, but small

by Zhuoshi Xie from Newton, MA on 2009-08-30
These are very nice shorts. I know this because I bought the exact same ones at a department store. But the ones I bought here on Amazon were really small. I bought a small size, which is what I usually buy for all of my shorts, and it ended up being as tight as my spandex volleyball shorts. I would've gone with two sizes bigger if I knew.

High quality scaled-down replica of adult pro-cycling bike shorts

by Fishergirl Seattle from Seattle, WA USA on 2010-07-15
The high quality and comfortable design of this cycling short is a hit with my six year old son---and the fit is perfect for him! These shorts are cute in all the right places and look just like the bike shorts that the serious adult bike commuters and racers wear. They are not restrictive or "bunchy". The padding is light, so it doesn't look like the wearer is in diapers---and it doesn't restrict the wearer's movement either. When we ordered them, the estimated shipping said two weeks, but the shorts arrived in just a few days. I am very impressed!!!

Ps. I ordered these for my son's modern dance class (ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop), but he finds them so comfortable he wears them for cycling too! I see they come in other colors, so I plan to order some for my daughter too.

First bike shorts

by James East from Knoxville, TN United States on 2009-01-20
Well made, good value. They look like they will be out-grown before worn-out. We find these to be a child size version of serious cycling shorts complete with padding. It is perfect for a child who will ride for hours on a "Tag A Long." We were pleased with the prompt delivery as they were received on the earliest day promised. A big factor in chosing this brand was the sizing charts which were most helpful.

Kid's Bike Shorts

by F. M. Covington from Texas, USA on 2007-08-23
I bought a pair of these shorts for my 9 year-old daughter prior to her first mountain biking trip. At first, she did not like the seams, which she described as "itchy," but after a few minutes, she never mentioned that issue again. She loved them otherwise, and wears them now even when she rides with the family on our daily 5-mile road outings. She has mentioned several times that she wishes the pad were thicker. I bought an adult pair of biking shorts for myself when ordering hers, and I agree with her on this point. The pad is not quite thick enough when the roads/trails are really bumpy.

Just like the real thing!

This is a very solid piece of kids equipment.. No plastic parts here. The frame is made of real metal, and is extremely sturdy and well built.
Its like a real miniature workout bench! I do wish the bench was adjustable, but its no big deal.
My son is only 2 1/2 so its perfect for him, but I can see it being a little small for bigger kinds.

But well worth the price.. I highly recommend!

Great - but for smaller kids

by E. Klein from California on 2009-12-28
This kids weight bench is great on many levels. I take my 6 year old son to the gym's "kids club" several times a week and he often wants to go to the workout area to "exercise like Daddy does." This bench is a fantastic way to stress the importance of exercise and health at a young age and, from what I can tell, there are no other products like it. However, I had to return it because it was too small. The box says it's good for kids up to 7 but my son is 6 and it's already way too small for him. He's a big bigger than normal but not an extremely large child. I would recommend this only for 5 year olds and younger. Too bad, they should make it a bit larger. I could see a larger version of something like this being useful until a child is maybe 10 years old (if it had the option of using real weights).

Useful equipment

by Ben B. Shahrokh from Downers Grove, IL on 2010-02-10
I bought this unit mainly for my 5 year old, but then noticed my 18 month old liked it as well. We've had this unit for about a week and though they don't get on it as often as when I bought it first, I still think it's a good option to walk in a park in Midwest's winters.

Great Quality, Great Price!

by K. Cleary from on 2010-02-06
This product is better than I expected! Our daughter is 3 1/2 years old, and she loves watching me run on my treadmill and do other fitness activities. One day, she asked if she could have a treadmill, and I said that I didn't think that they were made for children. Then, I found this item! My husband said that it was somewhat of a bear to put together, but the quality is great! I think the item is a lot sturdier and durable than I was expecting. Of course, it is a bit difficult for a little 3 year old to move the self-propelled treadmill belt, but anything different would be a safety concern. I love the product, and love that my little girl jumps on, pushes the timer buttons, and tries to exercise just like her mommy!

by E. NEIDECK from on 2010-01-06
The Redmon treadmill is wonderful exercise for youngsters. I wish I had purchased one sooner. My grandson is 7 and is having a great time with it. Very sturdy and easy to assemble, looks good and works good. Definitely worth the money.

Amazing!

by Mikhailah Brace from Oregon on 2010-05-31
I work with preschool children with special needs and bought this to meet the needs of a student who likes to run. From the first day, all of my students wanted to get on it and check it out. It has been wonderful for not only the students I originally bought it for, but I have a number of students who request it on a regular basis to help calm their bodies. This was so much better than I could ever have imagined and the quality is outstanding.

Surprisingly well made!

by A. M. Fischer from Texas on 2010-01-23
I have to admit, I did not have high expectations for this product but really wanted something to keep my 3 yrd old occupied while I was working out and to keep her off of the adult equipment. This product looks like plastic but is made of tubular metal and is very sturdy and stable. It is the perfect size for a 2-4 yr old of average height. However, it's rated for a higher weight so when the older kids get on it (8 and 6 yrs old), I don't have to worry about it breaking. My 3 yr old loves it and uses it even when I am not on my equipment. (The older kids love it, too, but they are really too tall for it.)

child's eliptical exerciser and treadmill

by Roseann McElwee from Bethpage, NY on 2008-12-31
We purchased the children's eliptical and the children's treadmill for our two grandaughters, ages 3 and 4. They are constantly wanting to use our treadmill and eliptical so when we saw these we knew they would be a perfect Christmas gift. We couldn't be more satisfied. The girls love them both and they are so colorful and inviting. My son-in-law also stated that they were easy to assemble.
The four year old said"I told mommy that now we can have a kid's gym"!
They've only had them a couple of days, but they seem quite stable and durable.

Excellent for Introducing Young Children to Yoga (and their ABCs!)

by L. Erickson from Los Angeles, CA on 2010-06-30
This is a lovely book for introducing young children (3-6 or so) to yoga poses, and for reinforcing their ABCs too. For each letter of the alphabet, one or more poses are offered, along with a rhymed verse describing each pose, and an adorable illustration of a child doing the position. Some of the poses are presented using the usual English translation of their name, such a Cobra under the letter 'C' or Downward Dog under 'D', while others are renamed to fit in the alphabet theme, like Dinosaur, Flower, or Flamingo. Both the pictures and rhymes are really cute. My kids, ages 4-6, like to do each pose in this book in sequence. However, they also like to just have me read the book, while they look at the illustrations.

Overall, I think this is a great book to get for your own kids, or as a gift for others.

Wonderful Book

by D. Latella from NY on 2010-03-03
My grandchildren and I have a wonderful time doing Yoga with this book. Itis so colorful, and the poses realte to things chidlren know. I recommend it for everyone. I have fun doing these poses along with them.

My kids love the book.

by G. Schlegel from Orange County, Ca on 2010-02-28
My kids had so much fun reading the book and doing the poses. They enjoyed being able to do the poses on their own because the words and pictures are easy for them to understand and follow. When they were done reading the book and doing all the poses they really felt proud of themselves. A great book!!

Lot's of Fun

by Thomas L. Marvin from Waco, Texas on 2009-05-24
True to yoga's philosophy of the unity of life, yoga's physical practice of bringing the body into balance and lot's of fun for kids. We especially enjoyed the Namaste song.

kids workout

To be able to stay physically and mentally fit, one of the advisable steps in doing so is to do some yoga exercises. Yoga exercises target both the physical and mental well-being of an individual. As you do the exercise, you are relaxing your inner being as well.

It is best and highly advisable to do these exercises first thing in the morning. At the end of the session, you would surely be able to feel rejuvenated and ready to face any challenges that would come your way.

Stay-at-home moms would usually be stuck in a daily routine of taking care of the kids, doing the laundry, cooking, groceries, cleaning the house, and many more. It is usually the back and the shoulder part that would be aching at the end of the day. However, with the yoga exercises, you would surely be able to feel the relief of tension as you start the yoga exercises.

What you need to het started

Here are the things you would need to perform yoga exercises.

          1) A yoga mat, or any mat that you can lie on your back comfortably
          2) A bottle of water
          3) A ball (if you have one)
          4) A chair
          5) Pile of books
          6) Face towel

Tips You'll Need in a Yoga Session

Before you do the exercise, you must have the warm up stretches so as to avoid straining your muscles. Do the basic head to toe exercises as a warm up exercise just to get things going.

Always remember as well that in doing yoga exercises, you are supposed to be in tune with your body. You have to feel the breathing in and out of your body. You must be relaxed at all times.

To Begin the Exercise

Yoga exercises would then start with the breathing in and out technique. Holding your breath for a few seconds and then releasing it in the process. As you begin the exercise, you can just lie down on your back and just relax. Stretching your arms and legs would surely do wonders for you. Stretching your arms would relax your forearms and shoulder blades. Curling into a ball will release the strain in your back muscles. Your legs would feel relaxed and rejuvenated as you bring them close to your chin one by one. As you do these exercises, don't forget the breathing technique that you have to follow in the process.

Be Creative

If your child has a large ball around, you can lie on it and arch your back using the ball as your balance. Feel every muscle of your body as you do these exercises. You can also use a chair as well in doing these exercises. Using it as a balance, you can stretch your back muscles. Make sure you have no back problems before you do these. Yoga exercises are not meant to be strenuous exercises. Always remember to relax from time to time.

Yoga exercises should be relaxing and at the same time a fun experience for you. That way, you will always enjoy them and look forward to making time to do these exercises.

outstanding performances

by KEPA M. ORMAZABAL from Basque Country on 2002-03-03
There are many recordings of Mozart's K.136 to 138, also known as "Salzburg symphonies". For me, these works are special: Mozart's genius shines all through them. The melodic invention is rich; there are passages in counterpoint; the feeling is joyful at times, lyrical at other times, yet never superficial. I only know of two performances of K. 136-138 on period instruments: Koopman's, which is this one, and another one by the Drottningholm Court Theatre Orchestra, based on Sweden, which I have not had the opportunity to listen to. Koopman has chosen to play these works with an orchestra, which means that there are many players per voice. Usually, K. 136-138 are played by a string quartett, that is, with one player per voice. Koopman's unusual choice of forces, however, produces a magnificent result. Despite the increased "weight" of the sound of the orchestra, this performance is energetic and lively. Koopman's tempos fit very well the music: it flows easily, with sparkling invention, with lyricism when required, and with energy when required. If you do not know these works, you will love them, as well as this performance. If you already knew them played by a string quartett, you will probably re-discover them.

A lot of fun

by Jinkon Yu from Somewhere over the rainbow on 2002-02-23
I just love this CD! It's simply wonderful with great playing with the excellent tone of the period instruments used and Koopman is just brilliant in leading the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, a truly incredible ensemble! I urge you to pick up their other CDs as well. This recording so vibrant and full of life and warmth and that's the way it should be for these Mozart works.

Great video for beginning pilates

by A. Davis from Fort Worth, Texas USA on 2005-09-09
This is a great video for anyone encountering pilates for the first time.

some serious Pilates instruction!!

by TJ from Denver, CO United States on 2005-03-05
Excellent, excellent instruction. This is the 1st of a 4-series set and is truly for a beginner to Pilates. The exercises in this DVD is to build up your core strength in a safe way without straining your neck and back.

Moira is not the one doing the exercises. She is talking as another is doing them. She gives many instructions to make sure you are breathing properly as the breathing is an important part of Pilates. But even more important is her instructions to keep you doing the moves in the correct postures so that the moves are safe.

In between exercises she doesn't talk and talk while leaving you hanging waiting for the next move to begin. This was the problem with Winsor Pilates--it got very annoying to wait for the next exercise to begin.

Another thing I love about this Stott Pilates series is that there is a good stretch/warm-up session at the beginning. Also, many harder Pilates exercises are in a modified form in this DVD. It is still a challenge for a beginner and a great way to build the strength so that you can safely do the harder full exercise in the next series and beyond. There are also exercises on this tape that are not on the Winsor Pilates tapes.

If you are a beginner, definitely get this 4 series set. It will challenge you as you safely gain the strength needed to progress to the next in the series, the second one--"Firm and Fit". You will love how Sott Pilates makes you feel!!

Excellent instructional video

by from on 2003-12-15
This Stott Pilates video is excellent for basics of pilates. Moira Stott offers clear instruction for every abdominal exercise. When starting out, most people don't realize how crucial proper technique is, and Moira Stott gives detailed explanations of each movement without being too complicated or wordy. This video is fun, and most importantly, I've lost inches in my abdominal area by using it just a few times a week. I will definitely look into additional Stott Pilates videos as my level improves.

Good but not what I was looking for

by M. JPharms from Malden, MA United States on 2007-08-21
I really like sara Ivanhoe so I bought this after I'd been doing
her hips and thighs video. This one is alright but I get the
same exersizes on my pilates dvd I wanted more yoga moves. It's
still a good workout but I like her others better.

A challenging yoga practice for strengthening your core

by Beth Cholette from Upstate NY USA on 2005-04-28
In this 20 minute video, instructor Sara Ivanhoe leads a challenging yoga practice aimed at strengthening your core abdominal muscles. She begins with standing side bends, adding a twist with a knee lift. Next comes some additional seated stretches with forward bends, twists, and spine rolls. Sara then moves to an all-fours position and leads some particularly challenging work moving from down dog to plank pose with one leg pulled in towards your chest. This is followed by some additional seated twists, including a twisting boat pose. Lying on your back, you'll then perform Pilates-like abs moves such as criss-cross, bicycle, and stretches with both bent and straight legs. You'll also perform a half sit up with the legs both bent and stright as well as side knee drops with the legs both bent and straight.

Although the box for this video says that it is "designed for all abilities," this is a tough, challening practice which is likely to feel overwhelming for beginners. The practice is best suited to those with some level of prior yoga experience as well as some pre-existing core strength. Overall, if you like Sara, have done yoga before, and want to focus more on your core, you are likely to enjoy this video.
