The ball came nicely packaged, but without the plug and the plug puller! If i didn't already have these items from a previously broken exercise ball from another company, this purchase would of had to been returned. The ball is a quality ball and very sturdy. Buyer beware.

I bought an exercise ball at a sports shop a few months ago and it was just massive, so I ordered this one hopping that it would be what I was looking for. And when it arrived and I got it inflated it was perfect. Using it just about everyday and I love it. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a way to inflate it.

small ball for small people

The thera band 45cm exercise ball is just what I needed. I have always worked with the 55cm, and it was not ideal. I am 4'10" and this is perfect. All of the exercises for toning and strenghtening are so much easier now that I have the right ball with which to work. Easy to follow inflation instructions and a clear and concise exercise program to follow.The recommended height/weight chart should be followed for the right fit.

I bought a cheaper brand first and had to return it due to a worthless pump. This pump is slow, but simple and works fine, and the ball seems strong and durable. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I would recommend this ball.

A note about size: the size recommendations based on your height are only useful if you are sitting on the ball. I got this for ab workouts and I like the 55cm size even though I am 6'4", because it has a tight radius that allows my back to arch and get a good range of movement. If crunches are your primary use, I would recommend this size for a person of nearly any height.

i have been using my spri stability ball for 6 years. it is so much better than any i have used in health clubs- much sturdier, does not lose inflation...its versatilty is phenominal. it serves as a bench for free weights, is superb for ab work, and is a comfortable and ergonomically correcct chair at my desk. over the years it has been deflated and re-inflated dozens of times easily with the [included] pump. several times i misplaced the plug, and the spri company cheerfully and quickly sent me [free] replacements.. a definite 5 star product!.


Great Quality but......

I purchased a ball for $10 from Wal Mart and didn't feel it had any stability and was very flimsy. The gym I use trains with the Spri brand so I thought this would be similar if not the exact ball. The quality was great, but unfortunately this is not the size I am used to hence the 3 star rating.

I am 5'5' and the recommended size is 55, but the 55 in my gym and the 55 I am looking at are 2 different sizes. I am sending this one back and ordering a 65 instead. I am not sure if they have a different product line that they use for professionals, but I am very disappointed.

This ball inflates to roughly double the size of a beach ball, and when seated you aren't high enough off the ground to do many of the moves effectively. Forget doing bridges, you might as well do them on the ground for all the height you get.

Great Ball!

This exercise ball works great for me - as a desk chair. I spend a lot of time at my computer, since I teach online, and I decided that sitting in a chair is just too lazy. This exercise ball is perfect. It has stayed perfectly inflated now for about 2 weeks, with tons of use. The pump is great, better than the old style pumps that needed a special tip. The tip is built right in, you don't have to worry about losing it. And it also comes with a little fork-like thing when you need to pry out the plug and inflate or deflate the ball. I haven't yet checked out the video, but I plan to start using the ball for exercise, too.

My trainer wanted me to get one of these. I looked on Amazon, found this one and ordered it. It wasn't the brand she suggested so I thought she might think I'd got an inferior product but in fact she said it was one of the best out there. I've had it a few months and it seems to be holding up well.

The Bosu Trainer is ok . There was no Manual included and the Packing was the last I ever saw. All corners are open . This box must be open so many times you can see it on the layers of the tape. It looks like the box was water damaged. |Very disappointed. | Amazon has done much better before !!!!

Just as good as the pro version

I was a little concerned that the cheaper version of the Bosu wouldn't be as good as the pro version that I use in physical therapy. But personally, I don't see a difference between the two. This is the cheapest price I've seen for the Bosu, pump, and DVDs. I love my Bosu!



"You have to change your exercise routine every 8 weeks or you'll hit a plateau."

How many times have you heard this crazy statement? Lots of times, I'll bet?

While I'm a big fan of variety in exercise program - I'm not a big advocate of or believer in the above statement.

It never made sense to me. It actually seemed counterproductive for many people. One of the primary reasons I think this is true is that it complicates matters and confuses people. It gives people one more bad reason to give up on trying to stay on his/her own fitness routine.

This myth was most likely spawned from the old school of personal training with has a heavy influence from the bodybuilding sub-culture. These are just not rules that should be applied to everyone - especially 'normal people' with real lives to live with careers and family, etc.

Here is what I do like to teach, when it comes to 'variety' (because it works).

It's called 'micro-varying'.

You take one exercise and create several variations of it. It could be three variations - or it might be twelve. The key is that you create options without having to overhaul your entire program every 2 or 3 months. Here are 2 examples:

For abs and core - one of my all time favorite exercises is the reverse crunch. Now, most people - if they've even ever heard of the reverse crunch - stop there, and then want to know "another exercise for the abs".

The truth is, the basic reverse crunch can be morphed into at least 4 variations. And, yes, crunches are very effective - when done properly.

These are:

1 - Cross leg reverse crunch

2 - Twisting reverse crunch

3 - Incline/Decline reverse crunch

4 - Side to side reverse crunch

The second example features my all time favorite butt and thigh exercise - the one leg hip extension (OLHE). This exercise is done with a simple floor mat and it can easily be morphed into 3 variations. These are:

1 - OLHE with a stability disk or small ball (soccer ball size)

2 - OLHE with 55cm swiss ball

3 - OLHE using the edge of your couch or an ottoman

Make your program fun and realistic by modifying the exercises you already know how to do - without having to do a complete fitness program makeover every 2 or 3 months. It's easier to stick with and you won't stress out, thinking you 'have to change everything around again' - while still reaping the desired benefit - results.

Yeah - you can can add new exercises here and there - or vary the sets, repetitions and rest periods - but there is no need to do a total program makeover - just when you're starting to get into a system.

The concept of the 'fitness plateau' is more a myth than a solid fitness principle. Some people even use it as an excuse.

If what you are doing is working - stick with it. If your program 'stops working' - contemplate why - before you going messing things around and replacing your entire exercise program with no rhyme or reason. Changing your routine for the sake of change or because you've been fooled into believing the fitness plateau myth is actually true, may only cause you to do something else that isn't going to work for you either.

What kind of "Fitness" watch doesn't have a countdown timer.

I received this watch as a gift, and am very disappointed. The fact that you can't set a timer for 1 minute and have it countdown for an alarm to go off at 0 makes this watch pretty useless for any sort of interval training.

My $30 Timex Ironman does this, other than the look, I find little reason to wear the Suunto.

Waste of money.

I may have bumped up against some equipment, but nothing that should have left a marked. I have two other Suunto watches, dive computers, and they are indestructible. These watches have been hit up against rocks and metal with some slight scratches to show for it. Bottomline, while the functionality is there, this watch is isn't worth the money due to the poor quality of materials used.

Best Bra I've found

I normally wear a 34DD, but I have one of these in a 34C and a 34D. The smaller one is the only thing that I can run in, while the larger one is perfect for spinning classes and more comfortable to wear. When you size down you do lose some of the separation that this bra is designed to offer, but since I've yet to find another bra that can provide separation and enough support, this is not too upsetting. It still beats a compression only bra.

It's comfortable and I like the adjustable straps. I just wish it were underwire so the girls couldn't slip through the bottom. It is very comfortable but I won't use it for high impact activities like running or volleyball but will use it for elliptical or walking.

I am normally a 42DD. I took others advice and ordered a 40DD instead, and was very happy I did so. This bra really did the trick for me after many others failed. I am not a runner, but do some serious hiking and was very comfortable the whole time. Nothing pinches and my back and shoulders felt good even after wearing it for a whole day. This bra offers really good coverage, with no "spillage" out of the sides or top like some others I have tried. Adjustable velcro straps in the front are really nice as well!

I absolutely love this bra and am back on Amazon buying more. I'm a 34DD but sized down to 34D with this, and it's perfect. This bra has firmly held the girls jiggle-free through skiing, mountain biking, running, and aerobics classes.

My lone complaint is that the thick material retains sweat, which can get pretty uncomfortable on long runs.

It's nice shape and flattering. However, it retains sweat alot which makes it feel very uncomfortable after only a few minutes of working out for someone who sweat alot like me won't appreciate so much. I ended up buying three of these though.. 1st one wrong size, one pink/white, and one white/charcoal. no return policy due to sanitary reason, so choose the right size, you can't return it even if you get the wrong size.

I'm impressed with this sports bra. I've never really been a fan of sports bras because of the horrible uniboob issue, this bra takes care of that problem though! There is some slight padding to help give your boobs some shape and it's overall pretty comfy. If you're in need spend a little more on this and invest in an excelent sports bra.

Great support - NOT wicking

Great bra for running! Didn't feel too tight but kept my C cups from bouncing. The bra is thick (multiple layers of fabric). I ran 7 miles outside in 90 degree weather. When I took the bra off, it was soaked and weighed at least a pound! Does not wick moisture away as other bras do. I guess the multiple layers of fabric vs. breathability is the the price you pay for the support. Definitely a good choice for cooler weather running, but not the bra to use in the warmer months.

I threw away all of my sports bras because they were completely worn out. All were Champion bras that I've had for over 5 years so I knew Champion was a good brand to go with. I search on Amazon looking for the 'perfect' sports bra. I do believe I found it! I ordered it a size down like the other reviewers said to do and it fits perfectly - hardly any bounce at all and I am not small chested. I am a 34D and ordered the medium. My experience with bras of all kinds is that if it fits a bit too snug at first, after a few wearings, it will probably stretch to fit perfectly. I love that this bra has the clasp in the back so you can adjust it to fit perfectly. Love this bra! I'll probably be ordering another one. (The one I purchased is pink and the color is beautiful)!

Great when it works

This is the second Polar hrm i've owned, the first being an old A-series model that just wouldn't die. after six years of pretty regular use, it finally died and because of the great use i got out of my a-series, i bought the FT7 as its replacement.

The watch itself works great - nice big lighted face that's easy to read, and it doesn't look too bad either. the problem is with the transmitter - it's far touchier than my old model. i frequently wear the watch and hrm all day, and that seems to cause the transmitter to stop transmitting info to the watch. the watch will say "check transmitter" and shows zeros instead of my heart rate. this usually isn't a problem; i just go and wet the transmitter and it starts back up - but it IS a problem when i'm in the middle of a workout and i look down for a quick status check and all i get is an error message.

i called Polar's customer service about this and they told me the transmitter (not the strap itself) needs to be cleaned - preferrably with a toothbrush to get into the grooves - and that will make it transmit continually. they also recommended washing the strap every five days or so - no problem. i did everything Polar recommended and i still have the same problems.

i'm thinking of trying another model - or maybe another brand.


Best Polar HR Monitor I have tried yet

I love this product! I have owned several Polar HR monitors. This one is by far the easiest to set up and use - yet still accurately tracks details on multiple workout sessions. The chest strap is a new design that is very comfortable. Only cloth touches the skin; the transmitter snaps onto the front of the strap. The transmitter on my old chest strap irritated the area of my skin were it rested. I have used this new monitor and chest strap combination during biking, step, walking, and strength training. I have not experienced any signal drops outs even when I am bending over. I love the option that allows me to see the heart rate or calories in a large font so that I just have to quickly glance at my monitor while exercising to see my progress.

Billed as the "future of fitness" and hawked by numerous celebrities, Billy Blanks's Tae-Bo actually deserves much of the hype it's receiving. A mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks, Tae-Bo is fun and easy. One of the best elements of this two-tape set is that the first tape (which is 40 minutes long), Tae-Bo: Instructional, lays out the movements you need to successfully complete a workout. Once you've mastered the steps, you won't have to fast-forward through half the tape to get to the workout, nor will your workout be slowed down by the repeated lessons. After you feel comfortable with the movements (and they're really quite easy to follow; nothing too complicated to trip you up), you're ready to move on to Tae-Bo: Basics, a 27-minute workout (5 minutes of warm-up, 18 minutes of Tae-Bo, and 4 minutes of cool-down) that will have your heart pounding and your body sweating. The only downside to this tape is the less-than-exciting music. Blanks, a seven-time World Martial Arts champion, is a superb instructor, providing encouragement and careful instruction (if you don't know by the end of the tape to hold in your stomach, that's no one's fault but your own). Not only is Tae-Bo great exercise for all levels, but the punches and kicks are wonderful for working out stress and aggression. good workout

I only got the one video--Basic workout--even though the picture includes the instructional with it. Not sure if it was a seller mistake (never heard back from them) or what. Love this basic workout--fun and challenging but I can still walk the next day without being sore! gets the heart and sweat going really good. Another good one on this same level is Tae Bo II Get Ripped basic workout. I lost 11 pounds in the last 6 weeks doing these videos!

Well - i have been using this and just looked up to write a review - look like it evokes extreme reactions -
answereing one of the questions in the one star reviews - No i dont know any body from the DVD program - i have been doing this for a couple of weeks - i find this extrmely good - and no i have not tried any other DVD so cant compare - long and short , i was looking for a no nonsese 10- 20 mins daily routine and i found it - going to stick with it for a while -


Still a good workout

Three might be a little low, but I can't quite give it four stars. I like the workouts, a TON of moves that really hit all the major muscle groups. I really feel a burn by the time I hit Round 3.

I was just hoping for something that was more MMA instruction. I'm a huge UFC fan and was looking for more along those lines, like detail on how to be a cage fighter, work with punching bags.

Again, can't complain about the workouts, they're good, no frills kind of exercises and I could see how doing them regularly would make a difference.

Just picked up BJ Penn's book Martial Arts The Book of Knowledge. It gives you tons of play by play moves. Guess that what more what I was expecting. If you want serious martial arts instruction, I'd go with the Penn book. If you want a strong workout, you'd be good with this DVD.


Lent to a Sergeant Major in the US Army

I was pregnant when I bought this dvd and planned on doing the workout after I had the baby. I figured that my husband (A Specialist in the US Army) would do it in the meantime. Instead, he gave it to his SGM to try out. I didn't think we'd be lending it out for four months. He told my husband that it was a pretty good workout there were some moves on the dvd he was going to make the unit do for PT!
Now that we finally got it back I see what he means. I am a little out of shape just having had a baby a couple months ago, but I am getting a great workout each time I pop it in.
At first my husband and I thought it was going to be too easy and we were proven WRONG. My husband and I were breaking a sweat in no time. I've only been doing it for a week and I'm already feeling better, stronger, and less sluggish. I'm not going for the whole 'mma body' type personally, but I do know that if I continue to do this I will tone up fast!


Awesome Workout!

I love this workout. The instructor is excellent. He provides great cues and is motivating without being over the top. I bought it based on earlier reviews, and they were right. The workout is tough but gives you a lot of options.

I had been looking at more traditional workout DVDs but decided to try something different. In the past, I have done aqua aerobics, yoga, and tai chi.

My husband is doing jiu jitsu at a local Gracie school and loves it. He showed the DVD to the instructor at school who said it was an effective workout. Watching my husband tone up is one of the things that inspired me to get into shape, and it gives us something in common. He had been playing tennis before and has actually said practicing martial arts is safer on his joints.

I am glad I bought this DVD. I feel like it is interesting enough to do regularly and is something I can stick with.


Challenging!

Don't be fooled by the first round. I started doing the workout and thought it was going to be easy. What I didn't realize is that the warm up is just that--a warm up. The cardio starts to kick in with the first round. By the third round it's intense. Both workouts contain a lot different moves. Every round has 5 different moves that are repeated once. Almost none of the moves are ever repeated in later rounds making for a lot of variety.

By the third round you are switching from standing work to ground work and that's great for bringing your heart rate up. I am an intermediate when it comes to fitness and doing the championship round is about perfect for me. Beginners should definitely take advantage of the alternate moves. If you're advanced, you could do the championship round followed by the undercard in a single workout. But if you go that route, skip days to give your muscles a rest.

The DVD makes a point of not having additional exercise equipment. That's true, you could get by with soup cans for some of the resistance work. If you're stronger, you would benefit from having some dumbbells for the shoulder and arm work in the second workout.

If you are looking for a lot of variety and a solid workout that delivers, I recommend this one.

I purchased this item as a gift for my boyfriend and it was totally not what i expected. The skin fits the ipod well except for the fact that the silicone is VERY flimsy and tears easy. It was not as depicted in the picture either, instead of being the bright orange that was shown in the picture, it was pale and barely showed as orange on the ipod. Add to the fact that the Amazon online store I got it from messed up my order TWICE (although they did recitfy it) made for a very unsatisfying shopping experience. Save your money on this one, or if you feel you absolutely must have a silicone skin, get it from the Apple store where they are much better quality.

Who doesn't want a flat belly, but did you realize that people with flat bellies are less likely to develop, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer? The Everything Flat Belly Cookbook discusses combining a healthy lifestyle and moderate workout routine with recipes that help to eliminate the belly bulge.

Do you keep a food diary? Most people are way off when they just try to estimate how many calories they eat each day. Tracking your caloric intake is the only way to really know how many calories you are consuming. What about carbs, do you crave them like me? If so, it is recommended that you consume your carbs at breakfast only when you need the energy to fuel your day. Eating carbs in the evening usually ends up as extra fat as we are less likely to burn them off.

This book is not a diet book, but rather a book that guides you to start making more sensible eating choices. It also outlines some sensible exercises to strengthen abdominal and back muscles while losing a few pounds by making better food choices. The book has chapters that cover, Breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner menus and recipes. There is a section on salads, a vegetarian, seafood, poultry, and beef/pork section. In addition, there are soups/stews, pizzas, appetizers, dips/spreads and dressings, side dishes, and my favorite: not so sinful desserts.

The thing that really sold me on this book was the fact that MOST of the 300 recipes, look so simple to prepare. The recipes are low in calories and low in fat, and many are high in fiber and protein as well, and there were so very many that sounded like they would appeal to me as well. Usually when I borrow a cookbook from the library as I did in this case, I'll just copy the recipes that appeal to me, but this book had so many recipes that I wanted to try, that I ended up ordering it.


The Everything Flat Belly Cookbook Needs a Tummy Tuck!

Driven by the excellent reviews and by my enjoyment of Prevention's "Flat Belly Diet" book I decided to purchase this book.

Whether it was planned to sound like the popular diet or merely a coincidence, it is important to note that this book is NOT a companion to Prevention's "Flat Belly Diet". With the title I had expected the book to tie in to Prevention's popular plan but it does not. This book makes use of artificial sugar (splenda), does not include MUFAs etc. The two books are totally unrelated. So if you are looking for a cook book for the Prevention book "Flat Belly Diet" you will want to look elsewhere.

The cookbook "The Everything Flat Belly Diet" boasts many good points. The authors open with a discussion on belly fat and share how what you eat is 80 percent responsible for your weight. They include tips on getting the most for your calorie buck and they include step by step directions for abdominal exercises - what to do and when to do them. Another nice factor in the book is the tidbits the authors add to the end of each recipe. Little tips like when to eat your largest meal, using lettuce instead of bread etc.

The authors include 300 recipes they claim will help you shed belly fat. Each recipe includes calories, fat, carbs, protein, sodium and fiber. Recipes are laid out in an easy to read fashion in the 292 page soft cover book. Chapters include; Flat Belly Philosophy, Rise and Shine, It's Breakfast Time!, Lunch Break, Snack Time and more.

The main disappointment in this book is some of the recipes. I was stunned as I read through a few of them. I like simple but these were to simple. For example;

Carrot Dippers (Carrot Sticks, Peanut Butter)
Dip carrots in peanut butter and enjoy.

Pickles in Blankets (Pickles, Fat Free Cheese)
Wrap each pickle in a cheese slice and enjoy.

Peanut Butter Apple Slices - (Apple, Peanut Butter)
Can you guess how to make this one?

If they had just been listed as snack suggestions it would have been fine but each of the above recipes and more like them were given there own separate page in the book. Some of the recipes were just plain disappointing. The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe for example involves mixing a prepared cookie mix with egg beaters and syrup. Cheesy fries has you baking prepared frozen french fries and sprinkling on cheese.

In fairness to the author there are some great dishes with simple preparation. If you are not fond of cooking but want to eat low fat this book may be a good choice for you. Sample recipes include; Steak and Caesar Salad, Cannellini Minestrone and Coq au Vin. If you like to cook, this book is most likely to simplistic for you.

The second disappointment is the book lacks photographs. Mouth watering photos do a lot to help me want to prepare a dish. And this book has none.

Personally I find that including healthy fats in my diet is a good thing and I am following a higher fat program which works much better for me. However,
if you want very simple to make low fat recipes with some tips for a flat belly included this may be the right cookbook for you. If you are looking for a companion to Prevention's "Flat Belly Diet", enjoy cooking and/or don't want to use Splenda select a different book.

Way too much food

This program required you to eat 6 meals a day. Calories around 1600. My husband and I were doing this diet together and after one month, we both gained 3 pounds. I cut calories for each day to prevent gaining since I knew that 1600 would be way too much.I fixed the recipes exactly as required, no extra amounts. We couldn't eat all that was required. Then it seemed like all we did all day was try to get menus ready, eat a ton of food and then eat more food. They only require 20 minutes of strength training three times a week along with all this food. That doesn't even help to burn off. I did my treadmill along with that, and still gained. Guess this program just wasn't for me.

I have done almost every program out there. Spark peoples program is free and lets you follow any program that you want. That is where I counted calories, and tracked my exercise. I lost 13 pounds. Can't wait to re-lose it after abs diet program!

I cannot say enough about how wonderful "The Abs Diet for Women" is. It's not really fair to call it a diet book. This is really a "learn an incredible amount of information about nutrition and learn how to live a healthy life" book. I began eating 5 times a day (three small-medium meals with mid-morning and afternoon snacks) and have already lost 7.5 pounds over the past 2 weeks. The power foods make perfect sense and are very easy to incorporate into every meal. I don't do the smoothies because of food allergies but I was able to take the core principles I learned from this book and am already seeing great success. The exercises are great and I love that the author tailored them to individual body styles. Whether you want to lose weight or simply learn more about nutrition and fitness, this is the book for you!!

If only I had known...

It was backwards of me to wait five years, after getting The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs, before also getting The Body Sculpting Bible for Women, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection! Even though following the exercises in the ab sculpting book works amazingly well, if I had also known the information given in the body sculpting book along with it, I would have maximized the potential results possible for my abs!

Jame Villepigue explains in detail what each ab exercise does; plus, he provides helpful tips to follow. The ab workout book does not give anywhere near as much vital overall information about exercise in general as does his body sculpting book. Now that I have this added information to go with my ab book, I'm already starting to see and feel the difference its making in only six weeks into doing the workouts compared to how I was doing my routines five years ago with less understanding about what and why I was doing things the way I did.

It's true that there are exercises which involve exercise equipment normally found only in a gym, but there is plenty of information in these books to make great use of the routines with what you do have available to use. For example, doing the High Chair Scissors exercises can be done if you have a tree nearby with a couple of branches available to rest your arms on (placing folded towels underneath to cushion the pressure).

The most useful equipment to achieve the best results are fortunately also the least expensive. Having only an exercise ball, floor mat, and weights are enough to get you great results. So don't let the lack of expensive equipment available have you thinking that these 'sculpting' books are not worth the money.

Understanding why and how important it is to have 'periodization training' (i.e., 'muscle confusion') incorporated into workout plans can make all the difference in the world, especially if you're the kind of person who needs to know about the details behind everything you do as much as possible in order to stay motivated.


Disappointing

There are some good exercises in this book. However, if you have not done ab exercises regularly and you are looking for a program to get you started (especially if you are working out at home!), this book is not for you. Although the writer does address readers with weak abs, he does not provide an adequate beginner's program, which would prepare you for the more difficult moves. Furthermore, you need some serious equipment if you want to follow this "14-day ab sculpting workout" (which is, in fact, a 14-WEEK workout, broken into 2-week-sections").

If you already have pretty strong and toned abdominals and are getting bored with your routine, AND have access to an 'ab high chair' and a cable station, along with the obligatory Swiss ball, you might find some challenging exercises in the "Body Bible for Abs".

Otherwise, keep browsing for a better book.

I can actually say this book taught me several workout routines and abdominal exercises that up until now I did not know existed. There are warm up exercises for the abs, medicine ball exercises for the abs, bench exercises for the abs, etc. The book is a very comprehensive manual, it has everything for all fitness level. If you are serious about getting your abs in shape this is a must have book


Not as complete as I'd hoped

This book is well-organized and has great pictures of the exercises (even though two of the models do look angry), but it does not specify muscles or muscle groups affected in each move, like many other ab books do. This makes it less useful as a resource when designing your ab workouts. It is very reader-friendly, however, and has lots of other options besides floor exercises for working your abs. If you have a Swiss Ball or Medicine Ball, or access to a gym, you'll probably use more of the moves described.

*There are 4 routines, each 15 minutes long, 1 of them using a ball.
*The routines are neither too easy, nor too hard: you can complete them and feel you really worked out.
*Each routine starts with a warm-up and incorporates some yoga and Pilates inspired strength work and stretches.
*You should see and feel results almost immediately!

Seniors, Work Out!

Joan Pagano's book and DVD "15 Minute Abs Workout" have been sitting on my book shelf for a few months now, all because I'm a senior citizen who sports a slow start button. FINALLY I blew the dust from this bible and started to follow the DVD with determination, whining a bit at first, of course. But, now, after only 3 weeks of regular practice, I feel like a new person. I still have a way to go, but I'm motivated; I also plan to refer back to Ms. Pagano's earlier books to work on my quads, currently aching from my back-to-bicycling efforts. Senior citizens, get moving. I've learned that, physically and mentally, a little bit of concentrated exercise goes a long way to making life increasingly satisfying. I count Joan Pagano's abs book a great resource for getting the core in shape and a good place to start. Think good balance and flexible movement along with.. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it!

I have been a fan of Joan's books since discovering the first one, Strength Training for Women. I love her books. They are all well written and beautifully illustrated. She has a real talent to relate to the reader, clearly explaining the form and benefits of each exercise.
15 Minute Abs with its accompanying DVD is a prime example of that talent. The routines in this book and DVD are very easy to follow. I have noticed a significant improvement in my mid-section in the last 5 weeks following these exercises three times a week. 15 Minute Abs is a great book.

Beautiful dancers, beautiful costumes, beautiful music. As an advanced beginner, this gives me a good combination of things I can do and things that are still challenging. After the workout, they have step by step instructions to help you break down the moves, and there's a list of the music used so you can buy it yourself. There's a lot of material here, and you can watch it either with or without the voice cues. I think it's a worthwhile investment.


Not for beginners.

The dancers are beautiful. The costumes are beautiful. The instruction sucks. This is NOT a video for complete beginners, like myself. I found myself extremely frustrated by the speed of the instructions and the rapid movement from step to step.

The instructors are all wearing long skirts and you cannot see the knee and leg movements they are pointing out to you. It is difficult to copy a movement that you cannot see.

Do not buy this video until you have a firm foundation in bellydance. I'm sure its great for intermediates or advanced.


Fun video but not as easy as it looks

This should be your first work out tape unless you actively do an arobics exercise and are in reasonalbe shape. I found Neon's instruction in the 'step-by-step' section very helpful. This section is great for thoes who do not have any background. For thoes who have background, the section makes a great check and drill. No matter your size, this workout really works out most of the target areas. I think Luscious is a nice but challengin work out for beginners. I am pushing into my one year in belly dancing, and i found this video informative, creative and simply divine. the music is perfect for each section. I never got bored with this workout because of how each dancer lead the section and the different costumes. My arms and thighs alone burned with satisfaction.

This is not for beginners--you can't see their feet, they go to fast and they get caught up in their performance that they forget it is supposed to be for beginners. Don't waste your money-- Rania has some better DVD's out there that are really great for beginners.

I did break a sweat but it was because I was trying so hard to keep up and I still was confused and lost. I never knew if my feet were positioned right or not because I could not see their feet. These people should give people who bought this DVD back their money because they misrepresented--it is not for beginners! It is for the advanced--probably those who took their classes.

If you are brand new to bellydance, I highly recommend this DVD. I have had several bellydance DVDs, and use different ones for different reasons, but I'd rate this one very high in the "practice the basics while enjoying yourself" category ... it gives a very nice fundamental dance vocabulary for your body and dance, to practice and build on as time goes by ... I find all of the teachers and the instructions to be very pleasant and good as well ... There are pointers and some instruction, most especially in the technique breakdown ... It's nice because you are having fun and feeling good while learning and increasing your skill ... Also it provides a healthy dose of how moves affect your body (internal and external) and encourages self expression and Love ... Om Shanti

I dont know why they call this a workout. ITS NOT A WORKOUT. I kind of wish it was, becasue that would be hilarious.

Instead its the best krump instructional of the series. Better moves, better combos. Better instruction. And they review the moves of the first two DVDs.

I would recommend this DVD to non Krumpers. THey emphasize grooving, and using double speed krump moves (without the hard hitting) to improve musicality. When you see the moves without the aggro posturing, (arm throws, the rythem of the combos, the torso roll variations) you can see that theyre dope and can fit in with many other dance styles.

Disappointed, they don't do the workout with you

I would give this 2 and 1/2 stars. This is more of an instructional DVD than a dance workout. Once you actually get to the workout part (there is a lot of bonus material on the DVD, including battle footage)the lead guy says, "look, I'm not Richard Simmons, I'm not gonna take you through an 8-count routine." Instead, they go through a variety of moves about twice or three times and then tell you to learn them all on your own and repeat each one twelve times or so. I thought this was disappointing because I don't have the patience or time to go through and figure all that out on my own. If you really want to learn Krump dancing and are patient, than get this DVD. Just be warned that it feels more like an instructional DVD than a workout.

They aren't entirely clear this isn't a linear follow up to the first DVD in the "Series" which is focused on technique and movement. This one is more of a straight up workout dvd that is presented over 3 levels depending on your own fitness level. It's not bad and I do hope the series comes back.


Great instruction DVD

I recently purchased both Hoopnotica Beginner Levels 1 and 2. I am new to hoop dancing and I watched both of these DVDs from beginning to end without hooping just to concentrate on the instructions. I think they are both excellent DVDs as they are very clear, organized and concise. If you are trying to decide on which one to get, I recommend that you start with the Level 1, but really you should get both. I plan to collect these as they come out, they are really that good. (Note that these aren't exercise routine DVDs - they are for learning the techniques of hoop dancing.)

Love this exercise tape by Richard Simmons. It is fun to do and entertaining as well. Fun to exercise and pretend you are on Broadway! It is a 30 minute vigorous workout that includes the songs: "The Telephone Song", "Do Re Mi", "Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair", "Hello Dolly", "Climb Every Mountain". Like his other videos, he has people of all sizes in the video, working at different levels, so it is great for any exercise level. Although, I do not care for the Sweatin To the Oldies series, I love these. Wish they would release these older workouts on dvd also, as they are timeless.

Swimsuit-clad Cindy puts herself through flings and gyrations that show off her body but aren't any good for anyone else's. She presents one after another of the exercises that fitness professionals threw out of their routines two decades ago because they're ineffective and risky to back and joints. Her alignment is awful; her control nonexistent. She rounds her back and flings her leg into high kicks. She does squats letting her knees go way past her toes. I LOST A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WEIGHT!

A friend of mine got me this DVD a very looong time ago. I got bored one day and decided to do it. I had been hooked from the very first workout! I was in pain the very next day because I was so out of shape - but it was very much worth it. I lost so much weight that friends did not recognize me. I alternated between the 2 workouts. Monday, I would do workout 1 - Tuesday, workout 2 - Wednesday, back to workout 1. If I was in a mad rush and wanted to get a workout in, I'd do the 3rd workout which is the quick one. I did stop doing the workout because life started getting hectic and I didn't have any time for the DVD. But, I am going right back and doing it. I am getting married in 2 months and need to get back into shape. I have been doing an elliptical machine, but the results are not as good as this DVD. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it!


finally an unannoying workout video

Cindy's workout videos are the only ones I can tolerate. I love how she is low-key and the music is soothing, yet upbeat, not at all annoying or in your face like other videos. That reviewer who said they needed a "good job" at the end made me laugh. Why do you need someone to pat you on the back and be all fake? You should be happy with your performance and feel good about. You need someone to say "Great job!" - wow, great job!

When I first started doing these videos I knew they would be tough so I worked up to them with my own exercises like walking and doing the exercise bike. Then I started out slowly by doing just the ten minute workout for a week. After that I felt ready to do the longer ones but then only as many reps as I could handle. After it ceased to be as challenging I increased the weights and concentrated more on slow control.
Yes, you will be sore, but never a bad sore. I was so proud to feel that way--I knew I had had a good workout. And the reason I knew I hadn't damaged myself is because I never hurt(as opposed to burn) when I did the exercises, and I always felt good when I was done. Interestingly enough the more sore I was, the more necessary I felt it was to exercise again. And doing that always made me feel better! Kudos to all the five star reviews--you covered just about everything for me. I was so upset about the editorial and was relieved to see that there were people out there who knew what they were talking about.

Fun,easy to follow, and definitely works your abs! The vocals should be louder. I found it is difficult to hear the steps being called. The cardio routine is a good work out. If you are putting forth the effort, you will be sweating. I would recommend this package to someone who is interested in working out at home and wants to concentrate on the abs. I used to do the Buns of Steel Platinum Series. Obviously that was a while ago. I do not like the Jillian Michaels workouts as well as the ones with Tammy Lee Webb, but for a beginner to an intermediate, these workouts are not bad.

The workout set is great! Consists of 5 different half hour workouts, one for each day of the work week! The workouts are challenging yet everyone is capable after a few practice runs through the set. There is a always one person on the tape doing the modified workout for beginners. I recommend it!


DVD was defective

I'm sure this would have been a good work out DVD however it was defective (perhaps that is why it was only 8.97?) The strange thing was it was packaged as new. I ended up throwing it out, skipped all the way through, even though I cleaned the DVD thoroughly. When I looked at the DVD there was streak all the way through it. Looks like this seller received a bunch of defective DVD's and sold them as "new"

First, let me say that if you are interested in this heart rate monitor watch, it is probably because you will be using it mainly for the heart rate monitor. However, I would have liked to see a LITTLE more flexibility to use it as both a heart rate monitor AND a watch at the same time. Perhaps I haven't quite figured out how to easily switch between the clock and the actual timers, but it isn't a big deal if you don't mind that. It's certainly not a deal breaker by any means.

I haven't dug into the features too much at this point, but I have used it for over 30 sessions of weight lifting and running, and everything works really well. Some people have said there is interference at times, but I have yet to run into anything like that. I rinse it off after every workout, and even washed it in the washer once already. So far, the strap itself has worked pretty well, though I wish it would stay up a little more in the back. I have a wide back so I can't really blame the strap, and having something resembling suspenders would be a little absurd. Additionally, when using it for weight lifting, because of the necessary location of the strap, it can get in the way on barbell benchpress, barbell bent rows, or other exercises that might come in contact with your lower chest.

The watch is light, and I like the color because it is never hard to find. Sure, it would look a little goofy to wear out and about as a general purpose watch, but this thing wasn't made for that. The buttons are all very easy to press, though sometimes the main lap button at the bottom (red button) has not read my perceived button press. Perhaps this is user error on my part, as I can't be positive because generally it is right after I finish a sprint that I press it. Your results may vary, but 98 out of 100 times, it works perfectly for me. I love the breakdowns and flexibility this thing gives, and it was nice to see it tell me that my fitness level was "elite."

Would definitely recommend for someone who wants the flexibility and precision of a great heart rate monitor watch.


lost heart rate

I have been very disappointed with the heart rate monitor. During exercise i will notice no heart rate on my watch screen. Any advice or anyone else experiencing the same issue? I have cleaned strap and changed battery. Advice anyone?

I could not figure out how to display calories in real time. Checked the manual, it only mentioned that you can view calories in summaries after the workout. So I figured that's not an option.
A review here pointed out to me I'm wrong.

Great Exercise Ball

I use this ball to sit on while using my computer. My last ball recently popped, it was very large, so I needed a replacement. This ball has very high-quality, thick rubber(or some kind of plastic) and will not pop any time soon. It has a band that goes around it to tell you when to stop inflating, my ball didn't ever get that big, it has been 2 weeks. If the measuring tape is correct, the ball inflates to about 82cm. Plenty big to sit on. I had to use a different pump to inflate this ball with, when I need to make quick fills after the ball has stretched out i use the low-quality pump that came with it. Comes with 2 plugs, they do not leak air until they are completely out of the ball. The color is a strange blue, wish it was black, but not too ugly, lighter than in picture, not green. Did not stink when I opened it, has absolutely no smell!!! I am very satisfied with this ball, it is worth the extra 5 bucks.


Save your money: look elsewhere

This review is for the J Fit 45cm "Professional Grade" Exercise Ball. I wanted a 45 cm one to fill out my home gym's three other-sized fitness balls. It is hardly professional, but is quite thin, just like the cheapest ones from box stores. When inflated to exactly 45 centimers diameter, measured with a tape, it compresses almost halfway(!) with my 160 pound weight. This mushiest ball I've yet encountered is a joke. At correct inflation even a child would find it way too spongy. Look elsewhere at other brands. I returned it immediately as defective, for a refund.

This is a great quality ball, just like the one I use at the gym. The purple color was pretty much as pictured and I didn't have any problems with the smell as previous reviews have stated. The pump quality does not match the ball quality. I would use a double action or better pump, otherwise it takes forever. The extra money for this ball is well worth the quality. I am happy with my purchase.


It is bigger than 55cm

I am 5'2", and I was thinking of using this ball as a chair with an existing stabilizing cradle. Because my old 55cm ball was poked by my cat, I needed to get a new one, and got this one.
However, after inflating, I found that this ball was much bigger than the previous 55cm one.
The quality does not look bad. Though air leakage was a major issue with my previous ball, this ball seems to have less air leakage.

Oddly there is absolutely no mention in any of these reviews about how much protein there is in this protein based product. Does anyone know? after all its a protein meal replacement shake. I don't care about how pretty the box is or how little the calorie content is or if it tastes great. If a person is not getting the proper amount of proteins to support proper workout then the product is useless. Protein, Thats the whole point. i wouldnt buy this product based on the reviews at all because they miss the effectivness of most crucial ingredient. Sigh, For the record it has 30 grams of protein. (thanks for clarifying that for me Gordon.)

This is hands down the best tasting protein shake I have ever had! I do suggest mixing it with icy cold water in a simple blender bottle. You can do skim milk, but there's really no need. It is smooth, rich, thick and keeps me very full. I like that it isn't a high sugar cintent and it provides a great source of low fat energy boosting protein. There is nothing weird in this shake that gives people the jitters. I work in a business where I can't always sit down and eat a big meal, so this shake is quick, nutritious and simple. Best of all it really keeps me satisfied, and keeps me from snacking on crappy foods. By the time I get home I am still energized enough to do my workout. This shake is helping me keep my lean muscle and burn off my excess fat. One of my friends recommended this shake for me and I am so glad she did. I can take the little protein shake packets anywhere and convenience is SO key.

Lean Body is a wonderful replacement product. We liked the chocolate flavor the best. We would either low fat milk or if we were making a special dinner treat add low fat choc ice cream and peanut butter. Too good!! The product is a little expensive but the convenience is worth it. Better than I expected

I'm not a breakfast person, and my usual first-meal is a cup of coffee or the occasional unhealthy option of a bagel & cream cheese, a muffin or something with bacon in it. On the days that I skip breakfast, I'm ravenous by noon and find myself easily caving into temptation of french fries or the pasta special at the lunch stop downstairs.

I bought these meal replacement packs as part of a plan to get back into shape. It's only been a few days and so far I've just replaced breakfast with these shakes. I've been pleasantly surprised at the taste and how long it keeps me satisfied without making my hunger go out of control.

In conjunction with this purchase, I also got myself a single-serving, personal blender and a shaker cup. The personal blender has been a PHENOMENAL accessory and I don't even want to bother with the shaker cup.

I have a feeling the powder mixed only with water or milk as directed would be unacceptable to my palate. Instead, I've been adding a handful of frozen berries, low fat soy milk and buzzing it up in the blender with a few ice cubes for that perfect smoothie consistency. On days when I need an extra pick-me up, I mix in a bit of energy drink I haven't been craving coffee (flavor), but still need the caffeine kick. So far, so good! I'll report back if this product has any lasting power/results.

I'm 5'10 and have a 34" inseam and these pants are perfect. Even after I washed AND dried them they didn't shrink up like nearly every single one of my other yoga pants have done. They still come down below my ankles but not too long. I'm buying more now.

This is a very solid piece of kids equipment.. No plastic parts here. The frame is made of real metal, and is extremely sturdy and well built.
Its like a real miniature workout bench! I do wish the bench was adjustable, but its no big deal.
My son is only 2 1/2 so its perfect for him, but I can see it being a little small for bigger kinds.

But well worth the price.. I highly recommend!

Great - but for smaller kids

This kids weight bench is great on many levels. I take my 6 year old son to the gym's "kids club" several times a week and he often wants to go to the workout area to "exercise like Daddy does." This bench is a fantastic way to stress the importance of exercise and health at a young age and, from what I can tell, there are no other products like it. However, I had to return it because it was too small. The box says it's good for kids up to 7 but my son is 6 and it's already way too small for him. He's a big bigger than normal but not an extremely large child. I would recommend this only for 5 year olds and younger. Too bad, they should make it a bit larger. I could see a larger version of something like this being useful until a child is maybe 10 years old (if it had the option of using real weights).

Here's some recent research on post-workout meals:

"A recent 12-week study says that those who failed to consume a post workout meal immediately after their workouts suffered a lower metabolism, loss of fat free mass, and had clear indications of muscle loss - while their counterparts (those who consumed a post workout recovery meal) significantly lost more fat, increased lean muscle, improved their metabolism, and increased dynamic strength."

I have noticed that many people are confused as to what actually makes a good post-workout meal. A couple common questions I receive about post workout meals:

1. Aren't post-workout meals only important for muscle building? Do they matter at all for fat loss goals?

2. Is it best to use one of the fancy post-workout drinks or shakes that you see in the magazines or is a whole food meal better? What's the best combo of carbs to protein to fat in a good post workout meal?

3. How soon after a workout is best to have my post workout meal?

Answers:

1. Post-workout meals are actually vitally important for BOTH muscle building and losing body fat!

Always remember that one of the most important considerations of long term body fat loss and maintaining a lean body for life is raising your overall metabolic rate by building and maintaining adequate lean muscle mass throughout your entire body.

By consuming a good post workout meal after every workout, you assist your body in repairing and building lean muscle throughout your whole body. The more lean muscle you have, the higher your metabolic rate (even when resting)... hence, you lose fat easier and faster, and it is MUCH easier to stay lean in the long term.

2. Are whole foods or supplement shakes best? This can actually be done either way, but I am going to show you some guidelines why some post-workout shakes are better than others and some whole foods are better than others. Either way, it can work.

First, keep in mind that your goal throughout the majority of each day is eating small whole food meals frequently that digest slowly with high fiber and a controlled glycemic response (blood sugar). These normal daily meals should also contain healthy fats and slowly digested proteins to maintain a steady supply of amino acids.

When it comes to post-workout meals, you can just about use the exact opposite strategy of your normal meals. With post-workout meals, you actually want a faster digesting carb source to stimulate an insulin response. This helps to push nutrients and glycogen back into your muscle cells for repair. Remember, this is not just important for building muscle, but also for losing fat.

So while I always preach high fiber for most of your meals, with post-workout meals, you actually want lower fiber, higher GI carbohydrates, and quickly digesting protein as well to kick start muscle repair.

Another consideration to keep in mind... while I always preach healthy fats at most of your meals... with the post workout meal, you actually want almost all carbohydrates and protein, and very little fat. Fat in the post workout meal just slows the absorption and glycemic response which is not what you want at this key time.

What about the best ratios of carbohydrates and protein?

I have reviewed dozens of studies on this subject and most seem to agree that a ratio of approx 2 to 1 carbs to protein is optimal. This seems to be the best combo to maximize muscle repair to boost that metabolic rate for long term body fat loss.

I usually make my post-workout shakes using a frozen banana, whey protein, water, and some real maple syrup (not the cheap high fructose corn syrup based maple syrups at most stores) and aim for about a 2:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein in the shake.

If you want to make things a little simpler, one of the best post-workout shakes that I've found that is already mixed in a 2:1 carb:protein ratio is Prograde's Varsity Post-Workout mix. You can find it at the bottom of this page.

3. How soon should you eat (or drink) your post-workout meal once your done working out?

As soon as you can after your workout (the sooner the better)!

Studies have shown that the sooner you consume your post workout meal following your intense workout, the better your muscle recovery will be, and a higher quantity of the carbohydrates ingested will be used for muscle glycogen replenishment instead of other uses.

The first thing I do when I get back from the gym is make my post workout shake, and this is about 10 min after finishing my workout.

Pilates is a great way to strengthen abs without doing even a single crunch. It is an exercise that primarily focuses on strengthening and creating a better looking stomach and buttocks. it also increases your flexibility improves your posture and strengthens the body’s muscles. Pilates and Yoga are similar they are both mind/body activities. Their focus is on breathing and posture. However, they can't take the place of traditional cardio and strength training exercises. There are several different pilates abs exercises such as, plank. This is when you are in the push up position and you are using your elbows to support your body weight. Pilates moves are by far the best abdominal exercises. Where crunches work primarily the rectus abdominus (the large "six pack" of muscle in the center of the abdomen).

Pilates works the deeper abdominal muscles and the stabilizers that help to hold it all in. It has also been shown to lengthen the muscles considerably,giving a taller, leaner appearance. Many exercises that tone the abs. There are many more, and Pilates is meant to be done in one smooth-flowing sequence. You then contract your abs holding this position for 30 to 60 seconds and repeat as many times as possible. There is also the 100s position, in which you lie flat on your back with your legs together and straight. Lifting your head and shoulders off the ground you pull in your abs. Roll-Up exercises-Sit with your legs straight and your arms in front of you Holding your abs in, slowly roll all the way down, feeling each vertebra press into the mat.

Until you're lying flat, being careful not to let your feet pop up. Now raise your arms on high your chest and slowly roll your trunk up and forward, tightening your stomach, until you're back to the starting position. Crisscrosses -- With your head slightly emboss,bring your knees to your chest and place your hands gently behind your head (don't interlace your fingers). Inhale and slowly twist to the right, bringing your left elbow to your right knee while extending your right leg. Hold this long enough to exhale. Now inhale and return to the starting position. Repeat, bringing your right elbow to your left knee. The Teaser -- Lie flat on your back with your legs straight out and arms on the mat, stretched straight up over your head.

Lift your legs up while raising both arms overhead until your fingers are pointing at your toes. Breath and slowly roll back down, feeling each vertebra press into the mat, back to the starting position. Repeat three times. Rolling exercises- Sit up and pull your ankles in toward your buttocks, wrapping your hands around them. Bring your head toward your knees and lift your feet off the mat so that you're balancing on your tailbone. Tighten your tummy and slowly roll backward just until your shoulders touch the mat be careful not to roll on your neck. Immediately roll back up. Strong Pilates body depends on the powerhouse woven and deep layer of lower back and abdominal muscles. This system of exercise allows the person to move elegantly and stand boldly throughout their life.

Not what I wanted

The cards are glossy and clearly printed (though the key chain that comes with them is a joke). But many of the exercises pictured are duplicates, one Dumbbell Curls card for beginners, for example, one for intermediate, and one for advanced. So the number of discrete exercises is actually pretty low. I was hoping to create my own workout program, but I couldn't do it with what's available here.

I was disapointed with these workout cards. There are only a few basic exercises and the Beginner, intermediate and advanced workouts are all the same. The cards are well made and have nice illustrations but the workouts are very limited. Also, ring to hold them was supposed to be included but all the came was a short little chain that is useless. Would like to return them but have already unwrapped the cards. I'm looking into fitdeck and shape workout cards.

This is amazing. The exercises are simple and well explained. Eduardo thought of everything. The little tips on the pictures are awesome! They show every little important thing to watch for. And he even tells you how long each routine takes! I put my routine together with the ring and take it to the gym. The whole thing fits in my pocket and I just look at the exercise before I do it. Although the routines are simple, I felt really sore on the first few times. And I was done with everything in less than half hour.

This is really good. Really simple but really thorough. At first I thought the routines were too simple, but I can't believe how the advanced routine kicked my butt! I love that he combines some body weight exercises with free weight, like doing push ups right after doing chest press. And the whole workout took less than half an hour. I did a half-hour cardio right after and was out of the gym in one hour. For a full body workout and cardio, that's amazing!

If you have a deck of cards then you have the perfect means to get a wicked fat burning workout while you are on the road or in the field. This is a workout I use with my fitness-orientated clients that want a change of pace. It's perfect for the people that don't want massive muscles but want to burn fat and stay athletic and trim. My clients find that after a couple weeks of this style routine, they are able to climb, snowboard or keep up a high energy pace all day long.

In my army days, this was a great one to do while on exercise in the field because it required no equipment and the cards could be used for less physical fun later!

If you do MMA, you can also get great results with this routine. All that changes is the exercises in order to better mimic actual fighting movements. For example the Burpees would turn into more of a sprawl. The jumping jacks and step ups could be replaced with specified reps of combinations on the heavy bag.

It's simple yet so effective, just keep flipping cards. Give this a shot and maybe keep a bucket handy if you are really going to give a good go.

Start off with one minute each of the exercises below. Go through the whole list before taking a break:

Now onto the good stuff. Assign each suit in the deck with an exercise. Here is what I usually pick for the beginner level:

Clubs - Burpees on bench or floor

Spades - Walkouts

Hearts - Sit-ups

Diamonds - Pushups

This is the easiest assignment. Whatever number card you pick, you do the number of the card with the exercise for that suit. For example if you turn the Jack of clubs, that means you would do 10 Burpees. All face cards are 10. Aces thank goodness are only one! Black jokers are 100 bodyweight squats in under 4 minutes. Red jokers are 75 sit-ups where every five you flip to do a pushup in 4 minutes. I have a "special" deck that a couple extra jokers sneaked into somehow. You do ten cards nonstop and then take a 30 second break if you are new to this type of training.

If all is going well and you want to up the ante some, then try this assignment. It will work the muscles with higher resistance movements with focus on the lower body.

Clubs - Burpees off the floor with a jump.

Spades - Dive Bombers or Hindu Pushups. This is a killer effective when done right.

Hearts - Do a sit-up on the floor, then standup and do two punches (jab, straight) and two front kicks (left and right).

Diamonds - Jumping three way lunges

Start fast and attempt to complete all the cards and jokers by the end of 60 minutes. If you start to fade on the high impact exercises, throw in an active rest. You do this by automatically adding the equal amount of jumping jacks followed by step-ups as the previous card had you doing. For example: An eight of hearts would mean 8 sit-ups, 8 jumping jacks and 8 step-ups, then flip the next card.

When you do finish the deck in under an hour, then you start to race the clock. Keep track of how long it takes to complete the deck and race to beat that time at your next session.

This method has given my clients and myself many hours of "pleasure"! Give it a try when you want to do something different for a workout, want extra conditioning for MMA, sports or have little weight training equipment available.

I guess I didn't read the description very carefully. I thought this was built like a weight with a clock on it, but it's just a regular clock with a picture of a weight as the background on the inside of the clock. Unimpressed and planning to return it.

I was extremely disappointed with this product so much so that I threw it in the trash immediately. The clock face itself was like a poor photocopy of xeroxed copy of a barbell. Couldn't fool a blind man.

Inspiring!

Beautiful dancers, beautiful costumes, beautiful music. As an advanced beginner, this gives me a good combination of things I can do and things that are still challenging. After the workout, they have step by step instructions to help you break down the moves, and there's a list of the music used so you can buy it yourself. There's a lot of material here, and you can watch it either with or without the voice cues. I think it's a worthwhile investment.


Not for beginners.

The dancers are beautiful. The costumes are beautiful. The instruction sucks. This is NOT a video for complete beginners, like myself. I found myself extremely frustrated by the speed of the instructions and the rapid movement from step to step.

The instructors are all wearing long skirts and you cannot see the knee and leg movements they are pointing out to you. It is difficult to copy a movement that you cannot see.

Do not buy this video until you have a firm foundation in bellydance. I'm sure its great for intermediates or advanced.


Fun video but not as easy as it looks

This should be your first work out tape unless you actively do an arobics exercise and are in reasonalbe shape. I found Neon's instruction in the 'step-by-step' section very helpful. This section is great for thoes who do not have any background. For thoes who have background, the section makes a great check and drill. No matter your size, this workout really works out most of the target areas. I think Luscious is a nice but challengin work out for beginners. I am pushing into my one year in belly dancing, and i found this video informative, creative and simply divine. the music is perfect for each section. I never got bored with this workout because of how each dancer lead the section and the different costumes. My arms and thighs alone burned with satisfaction.

This is not for beginners--you can't see their feet, they go to fast and they get caught up in their performance that they forget it is supposed to be for beginners. Don't waste your money-- Rania has some better DVD's out there that are really great for beginners.

I did break a sweat but it was because I was trying so hard to keep up and I still was confused and lost. I never knew if my feet were positioned right or not because I could not see their feet. These people should give people who bought this DVD back their money because they misrepresented--it is not for beginners! It is for the advanced--probably those who took their classes.

If you are brand new to bellydance, I highly recommend this DVD. I have had several bellydance DVDs, and use different ones for different reasons, but I'd rate this one very high in the "practice the basics while enjoying yourself" category ... it gives a very nice fundamental dance vocabulary for your body and dance, to practice and build on as time goes by ... I find all of the teachers and the instructions to be very pleasant and good as well ... There are pointers and some instruction, most especially in the technique breakdown ... It's nice because you are having fun and feeling good while learning and increasing your skill ... Also it provides a healthy dose of how moves affect your body (internal and external) and encourages self expression and Love ... Om Shanti

The best stretching video I have found.

Years ago after purchasing Runner's World BREAKTHROUGH STRETCHING I did not think I could find a better tape to help me stretch my body in preparation for/or following a more intense workout such as speedwalking or running. Karen Voight's PURE AND SIMPLE STRETCH is simply outstanding. I consider it to be a rival to BREAKTHROUGH STRETCHING.

It's nice that Karen includes men in her workout. My husband and I are both over 50 and regular stretching becomes more and more important every day. This tape is wonderful too in that it is not too long. It is 35 minutes of careful instruction. Modifications for those who cannot do some of the more advanced stretches are also included. I have found that as a female I am more flexible than my husband. He appreciates that there is someone out there that undestands his limitations and is willing to accomodate him in his efforts to better increase his flexibility. I would therefore strongly reoommend this tape to BOTH women AND men.

For those who are confused by conflicting reviews...

I was reading through the many reviews of this DVD and realized that I've actually owned Yoga Burn for about 2 years and never used it! I think what happened was I bought Yoga Burn at the same time I bought Yee's Advanced Yoga DVD Rodney Yee - Advanced Yoga. It only took me 2 minutes of previewing the Advanced DVD to stop it and put it away. I put the Burn DVD on the shelf with it, assuming that it would be equally difficult; they'd been collecting dust together ever since!

But reading the other reviews recently made me realize that I can probably do the Burn DVD, so I pulled it out and tried it (the Advanced Yoga DVD is still collecting dust, and will probably be for many years to come).

Now that I've tried the Burn DVD, I understand what the debate is about, and I think I can help bring some clarity for those who are wondering if they should purchase it.

1. For those who are afraid it will be too difficult: this DVD CAN be done by beginner-level folks!! The entire DVD is comprised of basic poses. The difficulty only comes from having to hold them for a longer period of time. As you practice, you will gain strength, flexibility, and the agility you will need for transitioning from pose to pose. If it's too difficult at first, just do as much as you can and you will eventually do the whole thing with purpose, integrity, and grace.

2. For those who are afraid it will be too easy: ok, I may not be the MOST fit person in the world. But I'm fit enough to do Yee's Power/Total Body Workout or Shiva Rea's Fire Practice without collapsing! If this DVD is practiced with purpose and you INTENTIONALLY use the muscles that the poses are designed to target, you will not be able to help but feel a burn. Now, exactly how MUCH burn will depend on your fitness level, but there's no way you won't generate some heat.

3. For those who are afraid there won't be enough instruction: Yee explains during the introduction that the main focus of this DVD is in the slow, purposeful TRANSITIONING from one pose to the next. I take this to mean that people who purchase this video should already be familiar with basic poses as well as with how to breathe.

If you are not familiar with basic poses and breathing, then you should also purchase Yoga for Beginners (Patricia Walden's DVD is an exceptional source of basic instruction Yoga for Beginners, Yoga Journal - Yoga Practice for Flexibility). But don't let that stop you from purchasing Yoga Burn. Once you've mastered the poses and breathing, you can pop in the Burn video when you're in the mood for a good, extremely low-impact workout that will improve your strength, flexibility, and mindfulness.

4. For the folks who are afraid it will be boring: I'm not a big Dr. Phil fan, but I agree with him when he says that "bored people are usually BORING people." If you're getting too used to ANY video that you practice, just make a choice to spice it up! Creative folks who are very familiar with a DVD and its poses will naturally begin to alter the poses to make them more advanced or more interesting.

Of course, I can't speak for anyone else, but I myself did not find this one boring. Actually it was a welcome (albeit temporary) break from my ongoing (and ever-intensifying) love affair with Shiva Rea Shiva Rea: Daily Energy - Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Shiva Rea: Yogini, Yoga Shakti, Shiva Rea - Fluid Power - Vinyasa Flow Yoga.

Anyway, to sum it all up...for those who are wondering if they should buy Yoga Burn: Just Do It! Hope this helps : )

I think Yoga Burn is really good. I didn't give it a 5 starts because I would like it to be a little more challenging, maybe more repetition and more abs, but I guess that's why they made a Yoga Abs :P
This one really works though, it has tone my body rather quickly, and it is good for people that is returning to work out after being off for awhile.


still my favorite yoga dvd

I've had this dvd for the past four years. I haven't practiced yoga in a year or so because life just got very busy. However, I decided to start practicing again today and went back to this dvd. After four years, this is still one of my favorite yoga dvds. The poses are simple enough for beginners, but still a good work out for intermediate students. Since it is a slow pace you have to hold your poses longer, which means build more control over your muscles.

The poses you need to know are simple beginner's poses: downward dog, warrior poses, boat pose, chair pose, forward bend, staff, single leg staff, etc.

Right now, my muscles are complete jello, and I have a feeling they will just be sore tomorrow. SO instead I will do a combination of 1 session of AM Yoga for your week (also Rodney Yee) and the Beginner's Yoga (also by Rodney Yee) tomorrow and go back to Yoga Burn the day after. My goal is to work my way back up to Power Yoga (also by Rodney Yee) which is a lot harder workout.

Fantastic! Easy enough for intermediate yoga students but challenging enough for advanced! Relaxing, challenging, perfect! I feel so relaxed despite sweating through this dvd. Wish he included modifications though.


cultivate patience, stillness and strength at the same time

I am an intermediate level yoga practitioner, having done both hatha and kundalini for many years, and I generally favor a vigorous, moderately paced vinyasa flow class or kundalini class so this was a whole new experience for me. True, I love and do the original Power Yoga series by Bryan Kest and he holds the postures for long stretches of time, but the entire tempo of this DVD is uniquely and intentionally slow. Now often it's easy to associate slow with easy, and all yoga is essentially easy because you should only be doing what you can in the moment, but this practice is actually very challenging and a valuable tool for building physical strength. Being a reformed gym rat, I compare this to training with heavier weights for very slow reps (emphasizing the negative resistance) and just a few reps per move as opposed to using lighter weight and higher reps. One builds a base of strength, the other develops stamina and sculpts. Both are immensely important aspects of physical training of any kind.

This DVD begins with seated ab-work and twists, and I love that he does navel poses right away when you have your full strength for maximum safety. He gradually moves you into standing postures and it's really a new experience for me to not just hold poses a bit longer, but to move in and out of them with such stillness, slowness and mindfulness. That last aspect strikes me as a somewhat hidden benefit here as well; you are absolutely forced into maximum presence when you move this slowly, just to keep your form in tact, thus making this into both a physically strengthening series and a powerful form of moving meditation. I found that my daily frustrations melted away as I had to intently focus on my movements with this, and that feels truly liberating.

I also enjoy the unobtrusive and lovely music in the background. The set is aesthetically pleasing and you even have the option of either detailed instruction by Yee or just hearing him call out the basic posture names/descriptions if you would like a more quiet practice. And of course, as always Rodney demonstrates every pose and every graceful move in and out of them with perfect form. I find him inspiring without being intimidating, he never radiates ego like some teachers.

I think beginners can do this DVD safely if they do listen to what he's saying on the detailed instruction track, and I also think that an intermediate practitioner can benefit greatly from this class as a form of muscle confusion and slowing down their practice to focus on form. I find that even after over 20 years of practice, I personally fall prey to the tendency to rush through a vinyasa or a class at times and when we do that, we can lose crucial form factors very easily without noticing and we also miss out on the benefit of moving in and out of poses more mindfully.

I plan to alternate this with the vinyasa flow classes I also enjoy, and in that have the perfect yin and yang energies in my own home practice.

Not a fan!

I am an active person doing running/swimming/Pilate religiously 6 times a week. I used the first two ten minutes of this DVD twice and every time I did the routines, I had a very very sore knee afterward. The pain is not in any of the thigh muscles as I was hoping for but inside of my knees. The workouts in the ten minutes were very boring with not much variation. I personally don't think any workout that is causing a joint pain not the muscle soreness is healthy to do.

I take live classes at Exhale Spa and have most of the DVDS except for the next two coming out and boy this one is the best.

The series of leg works and gluteal shapers truly do work.

They burn but in a good way.

5 workouts for legs and butt with a pretzel section (which is lovely for the waist as well) you can do all together or seperate parts.

I like to mix workouts on this dvd with the other Core Fusion workouts to make up an hr, which the normal live class usually is.

You do alot more in live classes but these are good for home practicing.

The zen nature and burn nature added together gives a nice atmosphere :)


Not good for the back!

I did this workout when it came on Fit TV. That was 3 days ago and I have had moderate lower back pain ever since. I am a reasonably fit person and I do yoga regularly, so it's not a question of my fitness level/form or flexibility. I do not recommend this to anyone!!


BORING! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I wish I could return this DVD. You have these two people Elizabeth & Fred doing and going thru each exercise and explaining how each one is done. Fred is doing a little advanced version. It is being narrated by the both of them. There is no talking between them thru the whole taping of the DVD. They stare at each other thru the whole exercise. The woman (Elizabeth) has this grin on her face the whole time! I just didn't understand why they didn't converse not once. I didn't like this DVD at all! IT WAS BORING! WAKE ME UP! A LITTLE MOTIVATION PLEASE!!!

Core Fusion Body Sculpt - which I absolutley LOVE & that's why I ordered Thighs & Glutes. Many of the "small movements & hip rotations" are diffiult to see on the dvd. Hard to know if you are doing something correctly. Maybe some different camera angles would have been helpful - instead of just a side view? I also found some of the stretches very awkward. Love Elisabeth & Fred though & looking forward to the new Lean & Toned dvd.

i have just started taking lipo 6 blacks hers and today is only my second day i am suprised to say that i physically have to make myself eat somethng i am never hungry i dont feel nausous or ne thng i just dnt feel like eating as far as an energy boost its not wild but it keeps me up and going and well obviously its to early to see any results but i will post again in a few weeks and share my results, this is my first time taking a diet supplemnt so i guess we will see :)


Great Product, great results

I have been taking Lipo 6 black hers for a bout 4 months now. I am 5 '7 and started out at about 150lbs, I am now down to 133 lbs! Thats 17 POUNDS!! I have been trying to lose weight for years and have tried countless diets and pills.. this is the only one that has actually WORKED for me!!

You can't just take this product then expect results though.. I also combine 5 or 6 days of 30-60 minutes of cardio a week, I also do resistance training about 2-3 days a week. also watching what i eat is key but i do not have a strict diet of any sort. this supplement suppresses my appetite and gives me crazy energy to work out. I only take about 3 capsules a day 2 in the morning and one around lunch and its great! never have had bad side effects or trouble sleeping. This is a great product and strongly recommend to people looking for a boost with their weight loss!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I have tried diet pills in the past (Xenadrine,Hydroxycut) all of which have been very extreme in side effects. Mostly feeling very jittery but also nauseous and in some cases "out of sorts". I decided to give Lipo-6 a try because with my diet and exercise alone I had hit a plateau and was getting frustrated with the lack of results. Once I gave them a shot, I was hooked!. It was just the type of boost I needed. It gave me so much energy. Before I started taking them, I'd wake up every morning feeling fatigue. Once I started Lipo-6 I never had the feeling of fatigue or lack of energy. I always felt pumped for my workouts and wanted to go longer and do more with my workouts! It surpressed my appetite on top of that as well. I was hungry less, which in return caused me to eat smaller meals throughout the day. I dropped about 20lbs within 2 months while on Lipo-6. I felt it doubled my weight loss. It is not a miracle pill but it aboslutley gives a boost to an existing work out.

If you are sensitive to caffine, it can irritate your stomach by jumping straight to the maximum dose or taking it on an empty stomach. I'd suggest starting out slow and gradually increasing to get a feel for what your body can handle. I am extremely caffine sensitive so I started off the first week with one pill at breakfast and one pill at dinner. Week two was two at breakfast and two at dinner and week three was three at breakfast and three at dinner. There were days I'd miss a dose or two and tried jumping back in to the same dose when I got back on track and it caused slight nauseous.

I'm ordering more of it now, that's how pleased I was with the results!

These are best diet pills I've tried since they took ephedra off the market!! I started them in April 2010, taking 2 per day for the first few weeks then moving to 2 in the AM and 2 in the afternoon. (I've never taken more than 2 at a time)... I've lost a total of 20 lbs on these thus far! LOVE them!!!!!!!

I work out at least 5 times a week and I am on a healthy diet. I took Hydroxycut after reading the reviews hoping that it would help me shed some stubborn fat. I started out with just one pill per day which didn't really have many effects except a slight buzz in my head. Once I upped the dosage to 2 pills, I felt terrible. I was extremely lightheaded and it was counterproductive because I did not have enough energy to work out. I gave it another try after that, just to make sure it was the pill and not something else, and it yet again I was extremely tired and lightheaded. Needless to say I did not take the pills long enough to see any results. I drink at least a gallon of water a day and I took less recommended dose and it still made me sick. If you are going to buy this product, which I advise against, do so with caution. If you just want a quick fix, quickly learn that there is no such thing, just cook healthy meals, don't drink soda, and get some exercise and the weight will come off.

Be careful when reading reviews, several of them can be fake ones made by the company selling product. Click on the user to see if they have reviewed anything else, or another product from the same company.

Ah Hydroxycut, the red flag of the diet industry. Let me tell you about me, then it.
I am 21, 6-0, ~300lbs. I rarely take the "recommended dosage." I started off taking one-a-day before workouts, then building to one in the morning and one before a workout. I lift a lot, instead of cardio, and I will tell you in the first few weeks of diligence, I did notice results.

I started working more, so the gym became less of a priority. I took some time off the hydroxycut, then went back to taking one in the mornings. The pill is amazing in the fact that it keeps me ALERT, but not jittery. I take one with breakfast and one with lunch, and my workday becomes a whole lot easier.

The trick is to not develop a tolerance and to eat properly. Exercise ALWAYS helps. Don't go thinking one pill will make you burn calories by sitting on your ass.

I have taken the past recipe of Hydroxycut (one that was discontinued) and this, HHX, and I use the same techniques and notice moderate, but satisfying results. The one truly bad thing is if you eat these on an empty stomach, you are bound to have the most disgusting burps ever, so don't do that. =)

Package delivered on time. Good quality product. All the capsules are in good shapes no broken ones. If you take the pills on time and keep a good diets and exercises this will give you a boost. The only thing you have to be concerned is that you will be going to the toilet more often that you use to be.


Good but prepare for the side effects

I just started using this a couple of hours ago. I took 2 pills and I felt nothing for the first hour. But then in the start of the 2nd hour I felt my heart pounding all of a sudden. It felt like I was about to have a heart attack. But after I felt that feeling I just got up, and started walking around. 5 minutes later I felt like running 20 miles straight. So yes, this product works, but you WILL FEEL THE SIDE EFFECTS. Don't panic when your heart starts racing. Just get up and start walking around.

This mix is overly clumpy. Which makes it a pain in the ass to mix by shaking (and who keeps a blender in their gym bag?).

It is also overpriced in comparison to Ultragen RS-Recovery which mixes and digests much more easily.

Buy the Ultragen, save money and get a better product.


Worth the money, without a doubt

My primary concern about buying the recovery drink was price. "Why pay that much for drink powder?" I foolishly asked myself.

Bottom line, it tastes great, is actually very good value for a month supply, and most importantly WORKS!

Among other important ingredients and amino acids, this powder contains 2 CRITICAL ingredients: Creatine and Potassium. Potassium helps your body break down lactic acid and reduces soreness after hard workouts (which you get with P90X), and Creatine helps your muscles recover more quickly after workouts so you can work harder during the next workout.

Summary: This recovery drink will keep you from suffering after your hard workouts by allowing your body to recover quickly without soreness. Also, it tastes great. The price is actually very reasonable for what it does. And ~$50 a month isn't really a huge cost, IMO.


Taste Just Like a Dreamcicle Ice Cream on a Stick

Being a woman and not use to doing P90X I really wasn't looking forward to drinking anything that was nasty tasting after the hard workout that Tony Horton puts you through. My husband and I both do the work out together and have our after exercise drink afterwards. Neither of us can't wait to drink it. To be honest I would drink this as a treat. I put 12oz. of water into a plastic measuring cup and place it in the freezer for about 20 minutes before time to get the water really cold. I take out of freezer and dump 2 scoop fulls of mix into the water/ice and put the head of the Wolf Gang Puck Bistro blender down into the cup of water and blend until all the powder is disolved which isn't too long. I make sure the blender is set on low so the water doesn't come flying out of the cup. Next I pour the liquid mix into the round container and put the top on and attach the blender to that and turn things up to high and I run it until everything is frothy. I've used a few ice cubes a couple of times but this make more of a milkshake thickness which when your hot you just want to drink down the liquid not sip on it. The lightness and cool taste is perfect for rewarding a hard workout. I've heard horror stories about health drinks but this one doesn't come close to being nasty tasting. Now I have to say this I asked my physical therapist about the drink because I went on a diet and he said that carbohydrate to protein is too high and the high sugar content was too high. Also it has simple sugars which he said was very bad for you. OTHER than that :( it seemed to be good for you. I know that it defintely helped in keeping the soreness down and for me that was a big factor and of course with all that sugar content you can count on having a needed pickup afterwards. My husband loves it as much as I do and even though its around $50 a tub we feel it's worth it. I'm not drinking it now because of the sugar and I really miss it!


Doesn't taste as good as they say

I bought the GNC Version of the recovery drink, and found the tastes wasn't that great. SO i went and bought the p90x recovery drink, and was hoping for a better taste. It tastes like a bad Creamsicle.
I can barley drink it. I have to plug my nose to get it down.
If you aren't a fan of citrus shakes, then I don't recommend this drink. I know that when I run out, I'm going back to GNC. I do recommend taking the recovery drink, as it helps you body recover. I forgot to take it one day and I was really sore the next morning.

The tanks shrink a little in the wash so wash them in cold water other than that perfect price and quality for your average gym rat.
