You know how important cardio workouts are for your health and wellbeing, but it's hard to get a good cardio workout in when you can't leave to house to go to the gym or for a run. Here are some great cardio workouts you can do right at home.

Workout DVDs

One of the easiest ways to get your heart pumping with a workout at home is to purchase one (or a few) of the workout DVDs available today. You can find cardio workouts on just about anything from kickboxing to dance. Pick one that looks like fun and start working out. If you just add a new DVD every 3 months, you'll have a great little library of cardio workout DVDs in no time. Rotate through the different workouts and you'll never get bored of working out at home again.

Treadmill

A treadmill is a great way to get a good cardio workout at home. You can walk on it briskly or go for a jog or run. Some models will even let you adjust the angle of the walking surface, to simulate going uphill. Keep your workout from getting boring by listening to some music or audio books while you walk.

Stationary Bike

A stationary bike is another great piece of equipment that allows you to get in a great cardio workout just about anywhere in your house. All you have to do is jump on the bike and peddle away. Keep some water close by to stay hydrated. I like to watch TV or a movie while I'm riding my bike. You can also read books or magazines if you are just peddling at a slower yet persistent pace.

Jump Rope

A jump rope is one of the least expensive pieces of workout equipment you'll ever buy. You can pick one up for a few bucks, or borrow one from your kids. To get a great workout, simply jump rope for 20 to 30 minutes. For a great interval training, jump 100 jumps as fast as you can, then slow down to a more comfortable jump, barely lifting your feet enough to let the rope go through.

Step Workout

You've probably seen those fancy step workouts at the gym, or the TV infomercial. Guess what? You can get a great step workout at home without any specialized equipment. Utilize the bottom step of your stairs, or any large, sturdy box you can step on and off. I use an old milk crate at my house. Step up using your right leg first 12 times, then switch to leading with your left leg. Repeat. For some variety try stepping side to side.

The workout is actually best suited for a person who has done a few classes before, and has at least a mediocre level of fitness. Beginners can simply watch it a few times before starting if it seems a bit too fast paced for them. She adds mods for periods when the heart rate is extremely speed up, which is nice. The exercise program is complete, especially given it's time set of only 40 minutes. That includes a short stretching period afterward, which helps you feel really good. The film production value is great! judicious amount of camera view changes and fades, making it easy to copy her body positions. All the props she used were standard furniture.

Her DVDs are delightfully created, the setting is wonderful, the music on this DVD is classical and complements the vibe of the workout very well. Tracy's libido is encouraging and kind, she discloses the mechanisms of each move quite well, but she does not speak too much. The exercise itself is about forty-five minutes long, and is composed of a brief warm-up, a lot of ab work, some side lying ab work, some leg and glute lifts and squeezes, and then two series of arm exercises, one without weights and one with light weights, and then it finishes with a cool down and stretch. The workout is definitely challenging, even for a more experienced student, but not overwhelmingly hard.

Most people put off making their first visit to the gym thinking that a workout routine is a commitment that would be too difficult to squeeze into their already busy—or lazy—schedule. One thing that many of those people don’t realize is that an exercise routine need not eat up one’s schedule. In fact, a 3day workout routine is all that is needed for one to maintain a healthy lifestyle. And if that still sounds too much, let me ease your troubled mind by saying that "3day workout routine" means only an hour and a half at most per day.

There are as many variations to a 3day workout routine as there are fitness goals and body types and medical histories. You can use the following or tweak it depending on your fitness goal:

Work out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and then take the weekends off. If you’re the type of person who hates being around sweaty people—even when you’re sweating yourself—or would not rather not stand around waiting for available equipment, go for an outdoor activity like swimming, running, or biking. For best results, do a different activity per day, making sure that each targets a different muscle group. This way, you get full-body toning out of your 3day workout routine. I would advise this to people who have trouble sticking to a routine because of boredom or loss of interest.

At the gym, you can work out all muscle groups on each session. Beginners can start with one set of 15 reps for each exercise, then gradually move it up to three sets towards the end of the first month. Start each session with 10 minutes of low-intensity cardio to warm up, followed by your upper, middle, lower body workout routine. For best results, finish off with another 20 to 30 minutes of your favorite cardio. As you already know, all this rounds up to an hour and a half at most.

One other thing that most people don’t realize is that their schedule is not really as busy as they might think--at least not too busy that it’s impossible to squeeze in an hour and a half of exercise three days a week. With the myriad variations of workout routines schedules out there, and with the proper guidance, you should be able to find one that’s right for you. In fact, even daily workout schedules can fit into a busy lifestyle given the proper time management. For an impossibly hectic schedule, one can even find ways to workout at home and save on travel time to the gym. So you see, there is really no excuse for putting off having an exercise routine. After all, a fit and healthy lifestyle means more energy and a longer life with which to do and enjoy all the things you want.

Another great Pregnancy workout dvd Is "Complete Pregnancy Fitness with Erin O’Brien". This fitness dvd has A lot of authentic factors, and is Actually down to earth and effective. Erin O'Brien is not irritatingly peppy, but realistic and down to earth. There is very little excess dialogue, which I love. She discloses just the perfect amount of knowledge and drops in a few extras about physiology and anatomy. The workout is actually best suited for a person who has done a few classes before, and has at least a mediocre level of fitness. Beginners can simply watch it a few times before starting if it seems a bit too fast paced for them. She adds mods for periods when the heart rate is extremely speed up, which is nice. The exercise program is complete, especially given it's time set of only 40 minutes. That includes a short stretching period afterward, which helps you feel really good. The film production value is great! judicious amount of camera view changes and fades, making it easy to copy her body positions. All the props she used were standard furniture.

Tracy Anderson's "Post Pregnancy Workout Dvd" is the final but not least dvd on the list. Tracy Anderson is taking the world by surprise with her revolutionizing Exercise program. Her DVDs are delightfully created, the setting is wonderful, the music on this DVD is classical and complements the vibe of the workout very well. Tracy's libido is encouraging and kind, she discloses the mechanisms of each move quite well, but she does not speak too much. The exercise itself is about forty-five minutes long, and is composed of a brief warm-up, a lot of ab work, some side lying ab work, some leg and glute lifts and squeezes, and then two series of arm exercises, one without weights and one with light weights, and then it finishes with a cool down and stretch. The workout is definitely challenging, even for a more experienced student, but not overwhelmingly hard.

Writing is one of my favorite things in the world. I love to impart knowledge to people who are truly looking to sort through the maze of misinformation out there on health and fitness and learn how to achieve optimal health and enjoy a much higher quality of life. Trust me people.....you will enjoy everything in your life better when you are healthy!?give yourself the gift of good health!

In this article I'm going to tell you exactly what I do for my back. I do four exercises on my back day.

1) Machine Shoulder Shrugs - I get a tight grip on the handles and keep my arms straight and imagine they are bars. Standing straight up and holding the grips with my arms straight down at my sides, I shrug with my traps to lift the bars up as far as I can. I don't try to pull it up with my arms. All of my focus is my traps doing the work. Then slowly lower bars and relax your trap and repeat.

2) Machine Close Grip Row - The machine makes you assume the proper position. Sitting down and bracing your chest against the pad, reach forward and grab the handles. Keeping your back straight use your back muscles to pull the bars toward your midsection. Once again don't use your arms to "pull" the handles. Bring to your body then slowly let bars return to starting position and repeat.

3) Lower Back Machine - Sit in machine with knees bent and feet on platform, back resting against pad. Smoothly and slowly push back the back pad with your rigid back to the full range of motion of the machine. Slowly let the back pad return to original position and repeat.

4) Cable Machine Wide Grip Pulldown - Sit on the bench and reach up and grab bars with a wide grip. Use your back to pull the bar down in front of you to your chin level. Once again think of your arms as bars. Slowly let bar raise up until your arms are extended fully again and repeat.

I use an advanced pyramid routine?3 sets pyramiding upward in weight for each exercise, with the corresponding number of repetitions decreasing. I also switch the order of the four exercises each week to keep my muscles shocked into growing.

Example:

1st set - 3 plates a side for 12 reps

2nd set - 4 plates a side for 10 reps

3rd set - 5 plates a side for 8 reps

To maintain progress and strength in any weight-training program, each muscle group should be worked out at least once a week. It is important to work out all of your muscles each week, not just certain ones. When you start a weight training program, there will be a trial-and-error period where you will learn what poundage to use for each exercise. No matter what your goals, your resistance should be such that the last repetition of each set is all you can do. As a general rule of thumb, you should exhaust the muscle after performing ten to twelve repetitions of one exercise. If you do not, then you should increase the weight. Learn the correct weight for you.

The gym is not a contest to see who can throw around the most weight and impress people. It is about using the right amount of weight per exercise to make your body grow and to build lean muscle and burn fat. Learn the science of weight training and really make your time in the gym as productive as it can possibly be!
